Short and sweet, Maddy Suppez’s “Art of Healing” oscillates between classic hip-hop, R&B and bedroom pop.
I love how she opens, her rapping so chill yet decisive: she enunciates every word like many seasoned rappers also do. The vocals in the background are simply heavenly and they create an amazing base for the artist to rap on.
Maddy’s voice goes up in the chorus as she starts harmonizing a bit more: her voice takes many different shapes as she goes from rapper to bedroom singer. Her delicate vocals now contrast with the lo-fi beats in the background but perfectly adapt to the other vocals we’ve been hearing all along.
The Spotify version of “Art of Healing” also features another rapper called Justice Gbada, who raps a few lines in the second half of the song. His deep masculine voice balances Maddy’s and takes us back to the hip-hop dimension we had started with.
Ultimately, Maddy Suppez’s new track is dreamy and evanescent, and I look forward to seeing what trajectory her music will take next!
