Hello Silas Armstrong. What is life like in United Kingdom? Would you change this country for another?
Life in the UK has changed a lot. Working from home has become the standard which has its pros and cons. The government is completely corrupt and the revolution will be televised. Politically I would trade the UK for almost anywhere else right now! Portugal or Holland would be at the top of my list.
What made you take up music?
My parents really, they were in a 80s pop band, a bit like Duran Duran meets ABBA. Music was a huge part of my childhood and I always played in bands with my best friends since the age of 12.
Your latest track is 'Silver'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?
The song is an ode to my mother. A lot of my early songs were about my dad and my mum got jealous! I shot the video in a location that we spent a family holiday in and my dance moves are a reference to her 80s dancing. There's lots of hidden gems about her, whilst the track generally speaking is an upbeat love song.
How do you deal with the pressure that is put on artists by fans, promoters etc.?
I put more pressure on myself than anyone else puts on me. I deal with it by going through phases, from creative artist, to artist manager, promoter and video director, I am all these things. I try to focus on one project at a time and plan ahead, although there's always overlap between projects when you wear so many different hats.
How do you spend your time?
For work I manage an orchestra called BCO (Brixton Chamber Orchestra), I also run a kids entertainment company called ITS MUSIC, and I freelance as a digital marketing consultant. In between all that I make as much music as possible and enjoy all the other artistic creativity that comes with it (artwork, videos, photoshoots etc.)
What are you most proud of?
Right now I'm most proud of my latest single Silver! The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and I know I have even stronger songs to release.
What advice do you have for beginning artists?
Scale up. Don't try and do it all on your own. Social media and the internet has made it so much easier to collaborate with people all over the world. Find "your people" and build your team, whether that's producers, managers, musicians, co-writers etc.
What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?
I'm constantly building my catalog, planning as far ahead as 2024/2025! I have 2 albums in the pipeline and every track I release feels like another step in the right direction. I LOVE collaborating with other artists, I have a duet coming out next year and some more remixes that have been so much fun to work on with other artists.
Do you think that technology is improving lives?
Yes and no. It makes life easier but nothing good ever came without hard work. With the right purpose technology can be incredible. In the wrong hands it can be deadly. It's a real world superpower.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
Thanks for supporting me! I'm starting to perform live and can't wait to see people in person. There's no better feeling than performing live. I'm looking forward to meeting and making lots of new fans as I continue to grow. Cheers to that!
