In this edition of LITM Pop Picks, we have Eckman & Borelius and more!
Eckman & Borelius - “You proved me wrong”
Eckman & Borelius are a duo formed of Johan and Tobias, who have been working on their sound for a little while; bringing a deep, meaningful dimension to their songwriting, they present their latest single, “You proved me wrong” — and from start to finish, this song is comforting to listen to. With the gentle pianos in the background and the deep, rumbling percussion, the production remains beautifully minimal in its foundation, with a sprinkling of synths and strings to punctuate the chorus sections, which are made even better by the vocal performance, which is soulful and melodious throughout. The mix captures the atmosphere this song creates beautifully, and it is, all in all, a rewarding, comforting listen. Take a listen to the track here!
Cassel Murmure - “Sous la Lune”
Cassel Murmure is a singer and songwriter that brings a modern trap hip-hop inspired pop sound with a punch — and on her latest single, “Sous la Lune”, she collaborates with Oleg Pylypenko and Allan Nielsen as co-composers to present a barebones yet superbly executed pop number. Using the clean electric guitars as the foundation, she brings her motifs and melodies to life through her catchy, expressive singing — and when the beat drops, the percussion is excellently controlled, and the basses low and rumbling. The inclusion of synths in the drop is a great addition to round out the production on this track — and with a tight, precise mix, this song presents quite the strong case for itself this week. Check it out here!
Kean Lane - “did i tell you”
Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Kean Lane is a singer-songwriter who crafts deeply emotional indie-pop and folk-pop music — and on their latest single, “did i tell you”, they present a compelling ensemble in the production department, working very well with the gentle, whisper-like vocals and the soft, romantic themes in the lyrics. There is an air of warmth, comfort and energy that surrounds you as the song progresses, and the synths playing in the background introduce a good bit of dimensionality and unique personality to the song that is rather well-executed. All in all, this song makes for a comforting listen, and is worth a play this week. Take a listen to it here!
Torrance - “Star Child”
Torrance, the “wandering space cadet”, delivers killer pop vocals with uptempo themes and playful instrumentation in his tracks — and his latest single, “Star Child”, continues on his style lines as he crafts a wide, expansive atmosphere of through and through feel-good. With his vocals and wafty reverbs on the harmonies, the singing is the foundation and the limelight. The rest of the ensemble is no slouch, either, with warm, welcoming strings to complement the singing and the fun synths that play in the background, elevating the feel of this track to the stratosphere. All in all, a very solid listen! Take a listen to the track here:
Giantheo - “Tommy al Lunapark”
In 2003, Giancarlo Prandelli met Matteo Sainaghi, known as Theo, and an instant connection led to the formation of Giantheo — bringing their trademark uptempo pop sound, they’ve topped charts and won awards; and their latest single, “Tommy al Lunapark”, adopts a half-sung, half-rapped style in the vocal delivery that sits just right with the rest of the energetic, groovy production. The beat is relaxed and laid-back with sprinkles of energy with the bass lines and the ambient guitars, making for a varied, entertaining listen from start to finish. As the song draws to a close, you’re left reaching for the repeat button — check out the track here!
