In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we curate a mix of artists like Jacqueline and more!

Jacqueline - “Strike Back”

Based out of Lyon, France, punk rock outfit Jacqueline bring us an energy infused, high tempo sound on their latest track, “Strike Back” — reminiscent of the pop rock sound of the 00s with the radioed vocals, catchy, articulate guitars and the express, choppy drumming, the track strikes it just right in terms of the energy balance — and the lyrics are catchy, and the vocal performance executes them quite well. Couple this with a lot of articulation in the atmosphere department, with a focused sound with its far-out elements, and the switchups in energy halfway through the song, and you have enough variety to keep you entertained way past the ending of the track — check it out here:

Harpa - “Gone”

Harpa, a Nottingham-based singer/songwriter, captivates with her dramatic rock-adjacent sound and powerful storytelling, making her a standout in the music scene — and on her latest single, “Gone”, she exhibits splendid range, and a powerful vocal style that would remind one of the great rock bands of the 00s; in conjunction with the powerful, groovy guitars and the chops in the drumming, she maintains a clean singing style throughout with great articulation that translates excellently into the mix — and overall, the energy balance is quite beautiful on this one. All in all, a winner of a listen! Take a listen to the track here:

Mortal Prophets - “New Breed”

The Mortal Prophets' latest track, curated by John Beckmann and William Declan Lucey, delves into primal blues with a menacing, experimental twist, invoking a riveting sound with the blend of synth rock, hard rock elements and the ver so slightly present aroma of grunge and punk rock music. With a ton of creative mixing thrown in for good measure, this track really pushes the boundaries of rock music, and that’s a compliment; the experimental nature of this track pays off in making it a listen quite not like any other you’d have laid your ears on; and it stays with you long after the track has come to a close. 9 o’clock Nasty - “Bad Monkey - Preyswitch Remix”

A gritty rock band from the alleys of Leicester in the United Kingdom, 9 o’clock Nasty are unapologetic in their sound, and their approach to punk and hard rock — and on their latest single “Bad Monkey” remixed by Preyswitch, they incorporate a gritty textured, synth-heavy approach to hard rock that’s accentuated by clean vocals with gruff vocal harmonies, making for a rather interesting take on hard rock. While the slow, thundering drumming sets the stage and the atmosphere quite nicely, the guitar work and the mixing take this track to a whole another level altogether. All in all, a runaway winner! Early Edison - “New York City”

Singer-songwriter Tom Ashton founded Early Edison, a power pop/pop punk outfit known for their energetic stage presence and acclaimed albums. On their latest EP, “The Past Is Never Where You Think You Left It”, they present their single, “New York City” — a dreamy pop rock ballad that paints pictures underneath glittering skies, with the vocals and instruments to go with. Tom’s vocals are the easy standout here, with compelling lyrics and stellar delivery that strikes a deep, resonant chord in the mind of the listener — and the rest of the ensemble is no slouch, either — with energetic performances from the guitars and the drums, this one’s a great listen; check it out here!
