LITM Rock Picks This Week: Maverick Smith and more!

In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we curate a mix of artists like Maverick Smith and more!

Maverick Smith - “Coal For Christmas”

Maverick Smith fuses raw rock energy with heartfelt authenticity, bringing to the fore heartfelt music that strikes great chords — and on their latest single, “Coal For Christmas”, they embody the holiday spirit with a song that’s velvety in its sound, with its great vocals. The pianos and the drums in the instrumentals make for a solid foundation, as the guitars build atop it in just the right ways, and with a warm, welcoming mix and master, this track gets the fundamentals on the dot — and we couldn’t love it more. The Strangulators! - “You Can’t Unmurder Someone”

The Strangulators! are a rock band led by singer and composer Joel Dean MacAskill — and with an uptempo pop rock sound, they’re all set to win hearts on their latest single, “You Can’t Unmurder Someone”; with its uptempo drumming, tremolo guitars and melodic writing that evoke a feeling of haunted mystery, the one thing that this track nails is the atmosphere and charisma; and in close tow are the vocals with the swathes of reverb, the slapstick lyrics, and the guitars in the background. With a mix that projects pure power, this track is a great listen! Check it out here:

Pjos - “Everything Was Taken Away”

Pjos, a Poland-based dreampop artist from Brazil, crafts cinematic music blending melancholy and dreamlike textures, inspired by acts like Slowdive and Sigur Rós. On his latest single, “Everything Was Taken Away”, he paints a beautiful picture on a canvas of shoegaze, post-rock and post-metal, carefully putting together every texture. There’s much drama that unfolds in the track, as the vocal samples blend seamlessly with the tremolo guitars, the steady, downtempo drumming, and the beautifully written melodic lines. With a well-rounded execution, and a crisp, detailed mix, this track is a winner! Check it out here:

The Perfect Storm - “Magic Feeling”

The Perfect Storm is a musical project fronted by composer Matthew John Kirtoglou, who presents a sound that’s uptempo, cheery, and optimistic  — and on their latest single, “Magic Feeling”, they capture effortlessly the sunny themes they stand for; be it the vocal harmonies in the choruses, or the steady, spirited drumming, there’s charm that oozes from every nook of this track — and I’d be remiss if I forgot the guitars — on this track, they serve as the final piece of the puzzle, shaping the track into the enjoyable listen that it is. All in all, a winner of a track! Take a listen to it here:

Poison Oak - “Tell Me”

Hailing from sunny Townsville, indie punk rockers Poison Oak have spent five years crafting raw, relatable anthems — and on their latest single, “Tell Me”, they blend their dreamy electric guitars together with a steady drum beat that keeps the track pulsing along beautifully — and when the vocals announce themselves, the song truly settles into its full charm. This is bettered even by the chorus sections, which have the rhythm guitars erupt into an energetic sound, while the vocals hit register higher after the last, all settling the listener into a smile.
