The fascinatingly enigmatic trio Febueder has returned with a new single “Shapeshifter,” a tease of their forthcoming EP From An Album, due out May 12. The song presents another mesmerizing iteration of the young group’s wholly unique concept of groove and production aesthetic. Over the atmospheric yet pulsing music, singer Kieran Godfrey laments about one’s ability to adapt to different settings and experiences. In the standout vocal line, he sings, “I can be anything you wanted me to be / I can be anything you want / I’m a shapeshifter boy / I’m ashamed of you, boy.” The last phrase keeps the band’s perspective somewhat ambiguous, which has become part of their charm. What we can be sure of is that the forthcoming EP, along with Febueder’s continued rise, will be something to watch in 2017.
