Bringing some of that eternal Miami summer into our windy isles, O.Z.’s latest song is easily contender for summer song of the year already. It’s classic hip hop thematically, covering things like the hustle, fatal violence, smoking chronic, and reckless spending, but there’s so much soul bleeding out of the production and overall performance that it feels refreshing to hear the story retold for the umpteenth time. If Michael Jackson had lived to see the trap explosion today, he might have jumped on a beat like this one, but that’s not to detract from O.Z. His performance here is so consistently on point, flitting between tight rapped bars, scatting, and singing. Nothing feels spare here. It’s the stuff feel-good hip hop is made of.
