Review: Abisso - Son Of Abyss (Video)

The Italian duo Abisso released their debut album last May and most recently they delivered the video for the “Son Of Abyss” track, which has the same title of the album. The thing is that “Son Of Abyss”, the album, is much more than a simple music release. It is a multidisciplinary project that combines music, visual arts and media.

Reviewing “Son Of Abyss” video is something that must be done with this artistic symbiosis in mind. The images simply give strength to what you listen to in the music. Or maybe it is the opposite. In the video we have this mysterious female persona that seems to live in the water, with a seductive yet fragile look in an astonishing water mirror effect. The whole song is a hymn to the occult and the darkness. As if we were facing an enigma, a feeling that is accentuated by the lettering used in the video, which seems to be written in code.

That woman in the water, the textures presented by her hair and by that strange liquid in the end, the dark blue filtered image contrasting with the white colour of her body, everything is blended together perfectly and results in a cinematic object you can't resist. When I reviewed “Son Of Abyss” album, I brought to the text a reference to David Lynch’s “Lost Highway” and Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut”. Well, the fear that is in the air in some of “Lost Highway” scenes combined with the mystery and seduction of “Eyes Wide Shut” brings me to “Son Of Abyss” artistic universe. Go check it out and dive into it!
