Neo-soul band Simple sessions consist of a wide variety of musicians from the North of England who have come together to create incredible music. Mainly consisting of Anna Hattam doing vocals, Alex Hogg on guitar, Jon Melville on keys and saxophone, Richard Hammond on bass and Steve Hanley on drums but there is often many more.

With the drop of their cover of ‘Sing to the Moon’ by Laura Mvula which features Anna Hattam’s vocals and Jon Melville on the piano. During isolation they came together and created this brilliant cover. Both audios were recorded at their house individually and Jon produced the piece.

This song has that ability to capture the listener’s attention within seconds, the compelling vocals from Anna and the calming sound of the piano from Jon. They go hand in hand and intertwine perfectly together.

With the outstanding vocals and the smooth rhythm that collides alongside creating this stand out piece. ‘Sing to the Moon’ is a song that has a rather deep meaning, focusing around the topic of mental health. Having them tough times but hoping that there will come a day when you feel ok again.

It has a very relatable story which is told through the lyrics and the tone of Anna’s voice as she sings each word. Making the lyrics heard and having such a huge amount of power coming through her voice. Creating such a soothing melody throughout and having such a strong meaning. Simple Sessions definitely pulled through with this cover.
