Review: numeral - Marauder

Philipe Adam is based in Bern and has been active from some time ago, whether as a drummer for Swiss musical projects as The Lugubrious or Faux Tales, whether as a electronic music producer under his numeral alias. Since his debut in 2020, with the EP “numeral” for the label Irascible Music, numeral has signed a bunch of remixes and also released a single in collaboration with Bristol based producer Brecon. A new EP will be out next June, by Swiss electronic label Blizzard Audio Club, and “Marauder” is its first single.

A sonic universe of rumbling sub-basses, clever audio design, dystopian landscapes: these are not my words but they all describe numeral musical aesthetics perfectly. Organic, attention to details, dark atmospheres. Yes, I’m still quoting numeral’s press release that got into my hands. And yes, I totally agree with it.

“Marauder”’s the starting point is pure ambient music. Cinematic. Atmospheric. Subtly, we are driven to an apocalyptic world, imagine a slow-motion rave inside a cavern. Now, our body and soul are totally shaken by dub techno at its best, with vibrant and contagious percussion. numeral’s music is sophisticated, futuristic, unique and cleverly produced. I can’t wait to put my ears on the “Primeval” EP in June!
