Interview: funkjoy - This Is The Way (The Mandalorian)

This Is The Way (The Mandalorian) is a new track by funkjoy. With so few of your lyrics, it's up for interpolation. For funkjoy, the opening sounds like a war cry. The buildup is more of an answer or reminder that we are coming. The drop is a show of fearlessness. The track was created at home studio.

Kamil) Hey funkjoy, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Hey!

I took a dj course when I was 10 years old. That really got my love of music starting.

Describe your favorite and least favorite part about being a musician.

The favourite part is to be creative and the emotions music can create. Least favourite must be promoting. I'm so bad it at it and it's so important.

Your latest song is 'This Is The Way (The Mandalorian)'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

It's obviously a cover from the theme song of The Mandalorian. The first time I heard it I knew which direction to take it. I started and almost finished the track in late 2019. But somehow I forgot about it. And I put down the finishing touches early 2023. I didn't plan to make it a official release. But it worked out so good in the clubs.

How do you differ from most other artists?

I'm independent and I do everything except vocals myself.

Where are you from and do you have a stable home or do you prefer travelling?

I live in Fredrikstad, Norway. I have a great family here I want to be close to. If it was not the case I would love to explore different countries.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I create different genres. But it should always be something that you want to dance to.

How do you nurture your own creativity?

I'm most creative when my daily tasks is done, everything is clean and nice. And I don't have anything else on my mind.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

I really love the vibe of Cheyenne Giles. But as working dj for my whole life. I could do every setting and vibe.

Who's your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

Singers is ideal to collaborate with. Because that's the only thing I don't do myself. Luckily there are so many great singers.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans is to be better at promoting my music and see if I can grow a bigger fan base. And from there maybe get the opportunity to work on exciting projects with other artists.
