Samuel Joson has been writing music and playing instruments since he was young growing up in the church. He has turned that beginning into a career of making catchy melodies and feel good music that gets stuck in your head. 'What Can You Do?' is a feel good and groovy song that basically says that you can't force love. With great lyricism, catchy vocal melodies, and great musicianship instrumentally, this is sure to be a song played on repeat all summer. Its a feel good song that gets caught in your head very easily.

What first got you into music?
My first exposure to music was growing up in the church, seeing the pure talent on the worship teams every Sunday. The more I ventured into music, the more I dreamed of creating music myself. Listening to music like Queen, Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin, and so many other artists. Just seeing the kind of influence music can have on people, I just wanted to be apart of that.
What do you think your role is in this world?
I want to use my talents to spread joy and love. When people hear my music, I want them to feel like they’re lives have been changed for the better.
Your latest track is 'What Can We Do?'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?
With this song, I really felt like I have finally found my sound in the musical world. I pride myself on catchy melodies and storytelling through my lyrics. Both of those really came together here. Producing this song was awesome, it really felt like everything just kind of fell into place naturally. The instruments and musicians were locked in and it felt more like we were just jamming out and having fun, than recording a song. Props to Taylor Heinzen at Deep River Audio, he’s a great friend and insane producer.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
Everything you do to support the artists you love makes an impact. I truly believe every local artist is one share away from breaking out. Thank you so much for all of the love.
How do you spend your time?
My life right now is enveloped in music, creating, playing, and listening. Aside from that, I really love playing basketball with my friends and lowkey binge watching tv.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of where I’m at in life. I genuinely like every aspect of where I’m at right now and wouldn’t trade it in for anything else.
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Silk Sonic, for sure. I love the old school r&b vibes that they make and how they are just having fun making music they want to make. The amount of swag between Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak is insane also.
What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?
Along with just developing my writing skills and knowledge on the production-side, I’ve really been focusing on networking. Early on, I kind of neglected that side of the business, but it is super important, especially just starting off.
Do you think that technology is improving lives?
I’d say yes and no. The advancements in being able to do so many things, yourself, digitally helps so much in terms of creation as a whole. It’s kind of cool that I can create all of my graphic design, promo videos, etc, on my phone/laptop. At the same time there’s a lot of things technology-wise that makes us super antisocial. Everything is live-streamed and on social media, making real life connection harder and harder.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking to start playing live, so if you’re in the Minneapolis area, get ready!
