Interview: Samantha Gibb - Sorry, Not Sorry (The Echo Sessions)

Samantha Gibb was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida and now lives in Nashville, TN. Sam’s father, legendary Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, vastly influenced her life and her music. She has said, “Growing up watching my father really set the bar for what kind of musician and songwriter I wanted to be”. In 2004, after her father passed away, Sam partnered with Lazaro Rodriguez, creating M.E.G. Records/M.E.G. Productions (M.E.G. being the acronym for her father’s initials, Maurice Ernest Gibb). Samantha and Lazaro write and record for herself and other artists, releasing new music every year. They have a unique and versatile musical sound that blends perfectly with Samantha's sultry vocals.

Kamil) Hey Samantha Gibb, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

My dad was a pop star so I guess that helped get me into music from the very start lol I started playing piano and singing when I was about 5. I used to practice writing music by changing the words to songs I listen to on the radio or in movies.

How do you balance your time in the studio with other commitments such as a part-time job, family, admin?

It’s definitely a balancing act but I’m usually leaning more towards not getting it all done lol No but really, I have an incredible husband/partner and we always make it work.

Your latest song is 'Sorry, Not Sorry (The Echo Sessions)'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

Nothing too unusual. The song was written with my music partner Lazaro Rodriguez and incredible songwriter and friend, Jennifer Adan. We wrote the song in one session over zoom: )

How do you find yourself in the music business? When you started out in music, did you know it would be like this?

I don’t think anyone could have predicted where we are now in music. Music and the business is ever changing. I am constantly learning and growing everyday.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

I love to cook and do frequently think of going to culinary school so that’s probably something I would have gone into.

How do you know when a work is finished?

You never really know. I think you can always do better. It’s more about being able to be satisfied enough to move on.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Like I mentioned earlier, I enjoy cooking and I am a super big foodie so I love to check out new places.I also, enjoy making my own hair and body products.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

I love being able to create a mood, a feeling, or a vibe.

Who is your favourite musician?

Honestly, there are way too many to mention. I dig all kinds of music and styles.

What are your plans for the future?

Just continuing to write/co-write for myself and others. Maybe do a few shows at some point: )
