Berlin Indietronic Duo Bromsen are going back to their roots with their second single, "The Photograph." It is a time travel back to Berlin in the early 2000s, when their previous band, "the pampelmuse," was active. Actually, the song was also co-written with their old bandmate Manzari, and it includes a bit from their pampelmuse sound. The song is about the rock’n’roll dreams they had when they were young, which look like a faded photograph after some time, but something from that special perspective on life keeps sticking in your head and never fully goes away, so the negative is still there but nobody knows where it exactly is.

Kamil) Hey Bromsen, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. How has the time gone for you since our last interview?
Great, thanks! In between our interviews there was the Christmas break, so that was great and we’ve had a great start in the New Year, hope you too . Now we are back with full force and in the middle of our album production which we aim to have ready in late spring.
What role does the artist have in society?
The artist mirrors to some extent the society but can also like a medieval jester use artistical freedom to criticize it in a unique way.
Your latest song is 'The Photograph'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?
That was an extraordinary production as we did it together with our mate from the old “Pampelmuse” band days, Manzari. He was already a fan of the song when it was just a simple guitar & voice demo and we once did a raw rock recording of it together. As Manzari is also making music as a solo artist and had some free capacities at the time, we gave it to him, asking if he would be fine to do a pre-production of the song and he said “yes”. It was a great teamplay and he added for instance that great chime melody in the “nobody knows” part and also did some great background voices. So fitting to the theme of the song we celebrated old times together and out of that celebration sth. new evolved.
What’s your strongest memory of your childhood?
That is a good one. We both were lucky to had great & lighthearted childhoods so our brains & hearts are filled with these strong pictures and we couldn’t even pick out a single one. When you have experienced a lot of love as a child and could explore life with the eyes of a kid also experiencing your own adventures, so having your own kind of Huckleberry Finn moments, it gives you strengths & joy throughout your whole life. That’s also one of the main themes of “The Photograph”.
What’s your most embarrassing moment?
We did various time travels together with Riff Raff and it once threw us out in Goethes house in Weimar when he was having tea with Christiane. Riff Raff, still having the high-torque from the time machine rumbled against the serving table and the big tea pot went onto Goethe’s new carpet. It was quite embarrassing but finally Christiane needed to laugh and that was the ice-breaker.
Is the artistic life lonely? What do you do to counteract it?
Yes it can be lonely lo-lo-lo-lo lonely to quote Sascha a German pop act. But the good thing is that we are 2 (which is also the theme of our next upcoming single “We” ;)). Also we are quite a social bunch and have families and a lot of friends which is massively enriching our lives.
What is your dream project?
Going back to Goethe with the time machine and creating a joint piece of work which blows away everything. He promised that to us before we were leaving but the thing with these time machines is that you can’t control where you’re ending up, so it is nearly impossible.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
You need to hear Bromsen songs various times and when you do that often enough you will discover a song which is called “footsteps” and it will tell you everything. The song will come alone to you and there is no way to find it anywhere on the Apples & Spotifies in the world.
When were you generally fulfilled in your position as an artist?
One of the best moments is always when you’ve completed a song and can celebrate that together. Also it was a great moment when we heard our music in the radio.
What can we expect from Bromsen in the near future?
Our groundbreaking album – yeah!!!
