The Atlanta based rock band, The Corduroy Blue, have come in with their latest release, the self titled debut album The Corduroy Blue. The band is composed of two brothers Atticus & Luke Roness. In the fog of their self experiences and emotions as kids in their early years, they decided to make music out of it. The album is like a soundtrack for their lives. An album they wish they could have heard in their formulative years. With the brothers having a knack of showmanship and love for rock n roll, they explore the possibilities of putting their ideas out in this modern day and age. Offering a glimpse into their inspirations and idols to which they grew up listening to, narrating it through their music and songwriting.

Kamil) Hey The Corduroy Blue, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?
Hey! Yes, nice to chat for sure. Well, our father really was the first to show us all the records that we inevitably try to model ourselves after. Like The Beatles, Queen, AC/DC, The Clash, Elton John and so on… once we heard those, I think the desire for the stage and to make music like that slowly just took us over.
How do you balance your time in the studio with other commitments such as a part-time job, family, admin?
Right, great question. Well we both have very different lives. I (Atticus) spent a lot of time in the studio, sacrificing Alot of time to be other places to make this debut record that we just dropped. But yeah as for Luke I think it’s similar. He didn’t have to be in the studio as much, since I had to track more stuff, but yeah both just try and find the middle ground between giving other things priority, while making our art our primary.
Your latest release is 'The Corduroy Blue'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?
Ha! More like what wasn’t unusual.. I don’t know.. it just all came about so suddenly, and we drove to the middle of nowhere in Georgia to record in the legendary Real-2-Reel studios with 90’s rock bass god, Will Turpin of Collective Soul. The whole thing was so fun and so spontaneous and I think that shows on the record. These songs come from an innocent time in my life and so to record them and have them out when I’m a bit older is also an odd experience. But yeah so much fun and so many odd encounters with different people, and different parts that were never going to make the record, that now are my favorite aspects. Stuff like that.
Where did you get the inspiration for this album?
It comes from all over the place. First off the idea to do a self-titled debut has been my dream the whole time. from Third Eye Blind, to The Stone Roses and so many more, I feel it just makes a defining statement about a band bursting onto the scene. The album cover was almost solely based on the Doors album “The Soft Parade” as for the music, Paul McCartney is sort of my comfort zone. His music speaks to me in a certain way. But every tune on this thing has a different inspiration. I think that’s why people are enjoying it, cuz it really is such an eclectic group of little singles all on one record.
How long did you work on the 'The Corduroy Blue'? Was it an easy process for you?
All in all from writing to distribution, this has been a 4 year process. Certainly the most time-consuming and hard working inducing endeavor I have ever embarked on. But so worth it, and is my favorite thing I have been a part of.
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
I mean, hidden? I don’t think so. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I’ve been told I’m a bad liar, so I feel like I’m a bad hider too. If I want to put meaning in there, I think the audience has found it or their own version of the meaning.
What interests or hobbies do you have outside of music?
I meaaan, we are just two kids in their early early 20’s so we like going to shows, having fun, poetry, film and all the pretentious things kids are into in their 20s haha.
How do you find yourself in the music business? When you started out in music, did you know it would be like this?
Throughout the process of making this record, I have been more involved in the industry than ever before. I think because we have been playing so long, none of it surprised me persay, but I have learned so much about the inner workings.
How do you nurture your own creativity?
Neil Young said it best. Don’t try and write if you don’t got it, please don’t. But if u have an idea, a good idea, at all costs get that thing down somehow. Record it, write it down. Don’t let it slip away.
What are your plans for the future?
Be in a rock n roll band I guess haha! I mean that’s what it is really. We feel we have something unique and will knock on every damn door shouting about it before we drop.
