Virginia-based artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Caleb L’Etoile returns with another Halloween-themed EP this year, titled I’m Always Haunted. Known for his inventive and impeccably produced bedroom-pop and art-pop soundscapes, Caleb L’Etoile blends pop, electronica and indie rock elements to create a truly eclectic and unique sound. In this EP, he crafts an eerie yet exciting atmosphere, perfect for the spooky season. This five-track EP features three original songs and two covers, each showcasing his distinct style and musical ingenuity. With richly textured and riveting soundscapes, I’m Always Haunted promises a thrilling sonic adventure this Halloween.
Opening with ‘(Let’s) Do the Hollow’, the EP witnesses a dark yet upbeat start. Delving into mental challenges and adversity, the lyrical theme finds itself transposed onto a brighter and energetic soundscape. What begins as a brooding, ominous feel builds into a euphoric eruption with radiant guitars, soaring synths, and speeding drums. The catchy vocals and exuberant soundscape ensure this song lingers in your mind.
‘Midnight in the Garden’ opens with an explosive beginning. Pounding beats, blaring synths, and impassioned vocals pull you into the soundscape with inescapable force, enveloping you in the lush, towering atmosphere of the song. The story, bold and gripping, is a reimagination of the Adam and Eve tale, told through an equally compelling, dynamic soundscape.
The next track ‘Tick’ features Jessy Leigh. A one-of-a-kind and unusual love song, this soundscape creates an ethereal ambience, at the heart of which is a mesmerizing vocal duet that is equally spell-binding as it is quirky. Mushrooming synths, intricate beat textures, and celestial atmospherics make the soundscape a hard place to escape from, like a dream.
Caleb’s take on Ramones’ ‘Pet Sematary’ is nothing short of magical. Putting a retro synth wave spin on the original, this track further heightens the haunting yet inviting and adventurous spirit of the EP. The cascading, catchy cadence of the drums topped with the swelling, whirling momentum of the iridescent synths creates a simply spectacular soundscape. This one is addictive.
‘Skulls’ is the next cover song, reinventing the classic by Misfits with a much more radiant, euphoric, and rich sonic flair. It feels uninhibited, bursting with emotion and energy in every note. The racing gallops of the drums compete with the speeding flux of enveloping synths while the singer punctuates the sound with sincere, expressive melodies. It is vivid, full of vigor, and a fitting end to a stunning EP.
‘I’m Always Haunted’ proves yet again that Caleb L’Etoile is an artist to watch out for and one with a lot more tricks up his sleeves. The tastefully and masterfully crafted musical aesthetics of the EP is testament to Caleb’s artistic creativity, talent and evolution. Listen to the ‘I’m Always Haunted’ EP here!
