LITM Pop Picks This Week, featuring SUUNCAT and more!

In this edition of LITM Pop Picks, we have SUUNCAT and more!

SUUNCAT - “Salad Years”

From early collaborations on the Montreal scene to her directorial debut, SUUNCAAT shapes landscapes inspired by dreams, video games, and machine experiments. Launching her latest single, “Salad Years”, she affectionately christens her style of music “Metapop”, bringing experimental sound design and textured approaches to melodies that give the track a distinctive, enjoyable sound. The atmosphere of the song is the standout here, with wide soundstage and excellent orchestration. To add to this, the production is innovative and engaging, with bit-crushed percussion and creative use of vocals that make for an awfully endearing listen from start to finish — take a listen to the track here!

Ninni - “Together”

Italian/English songwriter Ninni has transitioned from disco-punk bands to a solo career, gaining international success with steady pace — and he introduces his latest single, “Together” — a delightful bluesy, pop number with a soulful vocal performance that is sure to keep you engaged from start to finish. The mix reminds one of the old times of disco pop with the hard-panned vocals and the expansive harmonies, all laid atop a beautiful piano motif that plays perfect support to the shakers in the percussion and the basses. All in all, a winner of a listen with the engaging vocal performance and the execution! Take a listen to the track here:

META CITY FUTURE - “all over the world”

META CITY FUTURE blends material and transcendental, earth and heaven, time and space — their moniker for their experimental alternative pop sound; and on their latest single, “all over the world”, they bring elements of grunge pop and rock with the groovy drumming, and playful experimentation with their vocal layering. While the clean electric guitars keep the vocals great company from start to end, the rest of the ensemble shines while it creates an atmosphere that is truly delectable. All in all, a winner of the track for how well-executed it is, and surely worth a shot this week. Check out the track here:

Rebecca Helen - “Feeling This With You”

Rebecca Helen, a Cape Town singer/songwriter, blends indie folk, pop, and trip-hop in her solo work, featuring rhythmic beats and sultry vibes, reminiscent of artists and groups like Portishead and Massive Attack — and on her latest single, “Feeling This With You”, she brings the vibe of the warm summer breeze to her music, with a sunny, fun-loving theme on this track. While the bright pianos lay the melodic foundation, her vocal performance sits perfectly atop the deep, rumbling bass lines and the catchy, groovy percussion, keeping you entertained from start to finish — take a listen to the track here!

dove blood - “delirious”

dove blood is a trio haunted by death, blending dream pop, shoegaze, and 90s goth with influences from Julee Cruise, Cocteau Twins, and The Cure — and on their latest single, “delirious”, they bring a delicately woven, intricate soft sound to the fore; while the track runs for a rather brief 45 seconds, I’m glad to report that those seconds transport you to a place of calm, peace and serendipity; with the intricate vocal layers and harmonies granting a dimension unlike any other to the hauntingly introspective lyrics, all in all making for an absolutely beautiful listen.
