The Chamberlains - “Metropolis”
Sydney-based musician and poet Mike Stephens' project, The Chamberlains, blends abrasive rock with darkly comic lyricism, delving into the absurd and grotesque aspects of modern society. Bringing the best of dark atmosphere and ambient rock to his latest single, “Metropolis”, he brings forth a sky-high, towering space of sound with its downtuned, aggressive guitars; while the vocals amaze with their saturated, experimental processing that pulls off an emotive effect like no other. The Shining Tongues - “Sleeping Breathing”
The Shining Tongues, the songwriting alias of Daniel Knowler (The Infinite Three, Leisure Hive), formed in 2020 when Daniel reunited with bassist Sam Mclaughlin for a new collaboration. Infusing their post-punk roots with atmospheric gothic folk, drone-rock, and psychedelia — and since then, they’ve been hard at work; and their latest single, “Sleeping Breathing”, brings a ballad-like, soft rock sound with a twist — the dark experimental sound with the clean guitars and the steady drumming lend themselves to a majestic, awe-inspiring sound that one can never get enough of. STELL - “Don’t Wanna Get Out of Bed”
Alternative rock outfit, Stell, pride themselves on a sound of grunge punk post rock that they’ve managed to seemingly perfect — and on their latest single, “Don’t Wanna Get Out of Bed”, they bring their steady, chugging guitars and their peppy, energetic drumming; atop which the vocals sit with much aplomb and finesse. The half-grit, half-saturated vocal tone lends itself quite nicely to the grunge style that the rest of this track brings, creating a sense of unison and purpose; while aspects like the gentle synth lines in the instrumental passage add a further bit of dimension to this listen. Tidal Water - “Corrupted”
Through and through rock aficionados, Tidal Water blend rock's heritage with spirited rhythms spanning from the '60s to today, incorporating funk, punk, blues, and hints of jazz into their sound; with intricate riffs and dual bass lines courtesy of their bassist, they define their signature sound on their latest single, “Corrupted” — a classic rock number that blends in some elements of jazz and blues, and lends it a more steely, aggressive sound that still maintains its smooth-flowing, easy listen sound from down in its roots. RISE - “Here I Am”
RISE, a four-piece band from Liverpool, England, known for their high-energy performances and synth-laden electric sound, brings an instantly recognisable sound on their latest single, “Here I Am” . Drawing from melodic and progressive rock influences, their powerful blend of high-tempo rock, driven by melodic vocal hooks and a seamless mix of synths on this track elevate the listen almost immediately; the charming 80s-sounding synths lending a great deal of personality and uniqueness to the track.
