LITM Rock Picks: Dive into vibrant stories and masterful melodies from No See Ums, Letters from Suburbia and more!

In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we bring rock melodies from the No See Ums, Letters from Suburbia and more!

No See Ums - “Weekend”

A brand new pop and punk supergroup based out of Brighton in the United Kingdom, the No See Ums blend grunge rock and the sheer innuendo and satire that the genre is known for, into their lyrical narratives — and on their latest single, “Weekend”, they bring to us a fun, uptempo sound that retains its pop and punk roots throughout the song, making for a peppy, welcoming listen. The vocals are well-executed with a production and mixing effort that balances all the elements rather well. All in all, this is a great track! Take a listen to the song here:

Letters from Suburbia - “Medical Boomerang”

Jesse D. Pennington's "Letters From Suburbia" captures the post-pandemic suburban grind with sharp wit, memorable hooks, and a poignant reflection on life’s responsibilities and regrets - adopting the concept of modelling each song as a ‘letter’, he brings his latest single, “Medical Boomerang”; and from the start of the song, we’re treated to the harder edged punk rock sound of the noughts and the 90s; with vocal harmonies, upscale guitar riffs and the precise, clockwork-like drumming to keep one company as they journey through this song. There’s much to appreciate about this song’s writing as well, and overall, it’s an entertaining listen! Take a listen to it here:

IOTA - “Hollow”

IOTA channels the raw power of shoegaze, grunge, and early 2000s rock in Bristol’s DIY scene, with emotive grit, dreamlike harmonies — and on their latest single, “Hollow”, they bring a sound honed in their lock-away studio that will make you violently shake your head and shed a tear; from the melancholic riffs, to the sky-high vocals, to the sparse — but powerful — instrumentation to fill you with a sense of angst, energy and resolve. The drumming keeps quick pace with the rest of the ensemble, to, over all, bring us a balanced, poised sound that hits high marks in the emotive impact department. Take a listen to the track here!

Ainsley Costello - “People Pleaser”

Starting at seven in school talent shows, Ainsley Costello graduated high school at 16, attends Berklee College of Music, and has performed over 100 engagements nationwide, including The Bite of Seattle and NAMM — and on her latest single, “People Pleaser”, she brings her powerful voice to the fore and couples it with friendly, approachable sounding guitars and drumming to deliver what is, a soft, easygoing pop rock track. Ainsley’s song structuring takes us through gentle hills and valleys of energy, while retaining excellent control throughout; a listen that grabs your attention indeed. LLeow - “The Person That I Own”

LLeow’s brand of music, christened ‘Reboot Rock’, fuses 90s alternative, 80s punk, electropop, and poetry into hymnic hooklines that evoke nostalgia and inspire dreamers to live boldly — and on her latest single, “The Person That I Own”, she adopts a bit of a softer, more piano-influenced sound to make for an engaging rock ballad that has a bit of a softer side, allowing for the vocal performance to stand out quite brilliantly. The lyrical content of the song also weaves beautiful stories line after line, and we’re fans! Overall, this track makes for an entertaining, soul-enriching experience.
