LITM Rock Picks This Week: The best of sandmoon, and more!

In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we bring the best of sandmoon, and more!

sandmoon - “Confessions”

Beirut-based indie band sandmoon melds pop-rock with subtle Middle Eastern nuances in their vocal techniques, their instrumentation, and son on; and on their latest single, “Confessions”, they bring a delightful retro 80s-90s pop sound to the fore with their bright synths overlaid with wafty vocal lines that make light work of transporting the listener to another realm within seconds; with the gritty, warm textures of the synth elements playing rather well into the drumming and the rest of the ensemble. With a warm, welcoming mix to match, what’s not to like about this song? Take a listen to the track here!

Jack Tempchin - “Waiting”

Jack Tempchin, famed for his enduring collaborations with the Eagles and Glenn Frey, penned iconic hits like "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and "Already Gone," establishing himself as a key figure in the '70s Southern California music scene — and now in 2024, his new single, “Waiting”, is making waves with its rock and roll sound mixed in with a bit more uptempo surf rock feel. The dual-tracked slapback vocals take you right back to period rock that Jack embodies so well with his songwriting, and the production brings the guitars and the thrashy, high-energy drumming to go with. All in all, Jack does not disappoint with this one! Take a listen to the track here:

Podge Lane - “Left Foot Right Foot (Panic)”

Podge Lane, an acclaimed Irish alt-country artist known for his intimate lyricism and experimental instrumentation, continues to build his discography while experimenting with his Irish country folk sound in his latest single, “Left Foot Right Foot (Panic)”. Taking on a sunny, happy-go-lucky country taste, this song has a sugar-sweet outlook to it that makes it endearing from the very start; while the vocals stand out with their raw, expressive delivery. With the lead and chugging rhythm guitars to match and a drum groove to keep you going, you’re sure to love this one. Take a listen to the track here!

Duel Ferns - “Softer Silence”

Duel Ferns, a Brooklyn-based psychedelic rock band, cooks grooves with post-punk, trip-hop, and motorik influences — with their harder-edged rock sound fast becoming popular — and on their latest single, “Softer Silence”, they display a class act in energy balance; from the gentle, strummed guitars to the whispered vocals in the intro; and from the odd-meter drumming and rhythmic switch-ups throughout the song, they continuously infuse variety into the song; with unconventional elements like the fiddle adding extra meat to the punch. If you’re a nut for progressive, mind-bending rock music, this track is for you. Take a listen here!

Kid Lazuras - “It’s A Cure!”

Kid Lazuras, the artistic project of 24-year-old Bristol-based Luke Perry, blends new-wave, electronica, and post-punk influences on their latest single, “It’s A Cure!”: a statement piece that doesn’t do double takes at confronting the issues of the 21st century; speaking against normalising drug use, this song is a raw, slightly upturnedly sarcastic take on the issue. Deeply meaningful, the song is, though; with a delicate balance between vicarious narratives and personal struggles resound through this song, all laid atop a downtempo rock beat with great vocals, every little thing mixed to power and perfection.
