In this week’s LITM Pop Picks, we bring to you the best tunes by Geraldine Snell, Thea Alien, and more!
Geraldine Snell - “overlove”
Forming part of the album with the same name, Geraldine Snell’s “overlove” is a beautiful journey through melodies and harmonies, bringing together Snell’s signature mix of choral, classical music blended in with elements of pop and funk music, creating quite the unique listening experience on this song, too; and right from the very first notes, the listener sways to the beat which progresses with poise, but with patience; a downtempo R&B vibe enveloping the listener in positive feel-good all around. All in all, “overlove” is a great track, and certainly is something worth going back to again and again— check out the track here!
Thea Alien - “careless”
Bringing together a blend of what she calls R&B and Sweet-n-Sour in her music, artist Thea Alien concocts an infectious synth-driven number on her latest single, “careless”. Potent, present basses underline the flow of the track, and stand out with their gritty, aggressive style that filters on over to the vocals as well, with the rest of the production ensemble taking on this very heavy, very groovy avatar, which I fast grew to be a big fan of. The percussion is also of note here with its stomping rhythms that keep the song a steady beat, and overall, this track is a joy to listen to. Check it out here!
Earia Music Project - “The Weight”
A unique confluence of three countries coming together with three different styles of music, the Earia Music Project brings us a soft yet powerful ballad in the form of their latest single, “The Weight”. This song brings you powerful sung melodies filled with heartfelt lyrics and gentle piano chords that dot the whole song, and that’s it— demonstrating with excellent fluency the beauty of minimalistic production techniques and how they really leave an impression on the listener when pulled off well. Check out the track here!
Klemntyna - “SHE”
Bringing together a modern pop sound sprinkled with bits of R&B, Klemntyna brings her sweet, powerful voice to create engaging melodies and infectious songs that stay with you long after they’ve ended— and her latest single, “SHE”, just goes to demonstrate it. There is an element of downtempo pop that shines through quite evidently from the style of the song, and blending that with some really interesting percussion work makes for a very intriguing listen. Klemntyna’s voice is the easy cherry on top with its clear, effortless delivery, making for a very well rounded performance. Check out the track here!
Octavia Freud and The Weird Sisters - “My Future”
Bringing the charms of old-world electronic music back into the 21st century, Octavia Freud and The Weird Sisters are all set to make a splash with their latest single, “My Future”. Right from the start of the track, we’re brought back to the future with the ringing, chiming goodness of the synths of yesteryear, and the sound design is about accurate for the era, with nice, gritty patches, and great percussion to hold the mix together and keep the song swimming along. All in all, “My Future” is a great listen for those who are into retro electronic music! Check out the track here:
