LITM Rock Picks this week brings us a multitude of styles, moods and genres through Che Arthur, Side Chain and more!
Che Arthur - No Harbor
Prepare to be mesmerised by a midtempo rock ballad from the house of Che Arthur, with their exuberant melodies, and powerful vocals on their latest track, “No Harbor”. Right from the opening notes, the vocals are front and centre, signifying the lyrical focus of the song. This is further bolstered by the vocal layering and the harmonies that thus form, transporting us to a realm beyond. There is also much to appreciate about the instrumentation, the drumming in particular, with its tasteful fills and great cadence throughout the song. The breakdown mid-song is a great change of pace before you’re pulled back into hitting rewind; check out the track here!
Side Chain - Equipoise Delirium
There are few powerful things in music that can hold a candle to the emotions curdled by a melancholic, powerful rock ballad— and “Equipoise Delirium” by Side Chain is one of those tracks. Right from the start of the song, you’re exposed to the angsty, raw sound of this song that immediately manages to put you in a trance, and pit you against your emotions as you strap in for something quite special. With its downtempo, and deliberate picking on the guitars, the song blends its moody, soulful vocals excellently well further with the clean guitar parts that shine through quite excellently on the track. The production is of note, too, with its precise and rich sound, and it makes for an excellent listen. Check out the song here!
The Pink Dust - Lovesick
If there’s something that spices up a rock song, it’s experimentation— going beyond the mould and bringing something new and unique to the table. That is The Pink Dust on their latest single, “Lovesick”— bringing together fresh, zesty sounds on percussion with their work on vocal harmonies that create a cohesive melodic soundscape right from the very start. The work on the basses is notable, too, as they shine in the mix, with some rather excellent playing going on. The middle section bares the vocals and bass for them to have the spotlight, and they make excellent use of it. The use of orchestral instruments throughout the song also makes for a more enjoyable element— check out the track here!
SIR-VERE - Peer Pressure
With its confident, punk-pop sound that immediately takes you back to a New York alley, “Peer Pressure” by SIR-VERE is the fresh, adrenaline-filled listen right from the get-go. There’s a great bit of electronic production work, with tasteful gritty synths filling up the negative spaces in the mix, and the raw, gritty vocals adding to the energy quite beautifully. The production is of special mention here, as it quite elegantly manages to elevate the track in its style, keeping SIR-VERE’s style alive and very much present. To know what I’m talking about, check out the track here!
Gary Dranow - Bodywise
Gary Dranow has been gaining somewhat of a claw grip on modern blues rock influenced by the days of yesteryear— and for excellent reason! His latest single, “Bodywise”, is the perfect serenade that brings in the beauty of acoustic guitars, and throws it together with his soulful voice, making for quite the enjoyable listen once, and for tens of times; there’s beauty that oozes through every corner of this track, with the harmonies, and Gary’s singing, which we’re growing to be fast fans of; and coupled with a warm, inviting mix and master that captures the essence of the mid-song solo quite nicely, this track makes for an interesting listen and then some more.
