LITM Rock Picks this week brings us a fusion of music from Kolbak, Nimby and more!
Kolbak - Smoke And Mirrors
Bringing the old-world charm of creamy, clean guitars and humming melodies, “Smoke And Mirrors” by Kolbak is the perfect mix of technical display with good old nostalgia. There is just this warm duvet of sound that instantly gets your juices flowing from the get-go; and as we journey through the song, more good things keep coming as motifs turn into melodies, and melodies turn into harmonies— never once losing that charm that is so evident throughout this track. The production plays excellently into the idea of the song and the vocals and is overall an excellent listen. Check out the track here!
Nimby - Avatar
“Avatar” by Nimby brings us all its charm in the form of grunge, garage-rock-esque sound with its forward, crunchy goodness in the guitars that, along with the vocals, find themselves most delectable. The energy throughout the song is also worth much appreciation, as the melodic layers interplay delightfully well, conveying the emotional weight of the song quite eloquently. The adrenaline never drops low as the song remains interesting from the first second all the way till the last— and we’re more than here for the ride! Check out the track here:
LuisG - Burgers And Fries (no one tells you how to make friends when you’ve grown up)
LuisG brings us a heartfelt rendition of pop and rock mixed with a litle bit of Southern California sunshine on his latest single, “Burgers And Fries (no one tells you how to make friends when you’ve grown up)”. Delicious title (get it?) aside, the whole song has a very homely, familiar feeling to it the moment you kick it on; and Luis’ vocals are front and centre as he delivers wistful, heartfelt lyrics that really propel this one forward. There is much animatedness happening in the guitars, and coupled with the rest of the ensemble, makes for a really nice feel-good listen as you cocoon into your comforter. Check out the track here!
Tally Spear - Here Comes The Rain
Tally Spear brings us a stick of dynamite in form of their latest track, “Here Comes The Rain”. The whole song is brimming with energy with the chugging in the guitars, and the radio-esque vocals, which are a nice touch. The whole ensemble powers this song through right on cue, with the powerful, precise drumming that has this big-room sound that’s worth a hundred words of its own; and the guitars play excellent support to the vocals, and the result is a great listen to pump your day up. Feck - Worm
Forming the title track of its album, “Worm” by Feck forms quite the engaging listen with its deep, emotive melodies and singing. The whole song represents this very raw, intimate air that makes the listener one with the experience, a feat that few tracks are able to accomplish-- the unabashedness in the singing style and the instrumentation play quite well together as the fuzzy, distorted guitars kick in, laid atop the clean guitar licks, yielding an aspect of appreciated dimensionality to the song, making it a much appreciated listen.
