LITM Singer-Songwriter Picks This Week: Hodd and more!

This week’s edition of LITM Singer-Songwriter Picks features pieces from Hodd and more!

Casper Fox - “Hymn To Diomedes”

Casper, a 24-year-old Danish musician living in Brno, Czech Republic, creates captivating music inspired by the enchanting world of acapella — and in a bit of departure from his usual style of music, he presents his latest single, “Hymn To Diomedes”; a gentle ballad that brings soft pianos together with deep strings, orchestral sections, and his gentle, soothing voice. With introspective, poetic lyrics, this track quickly wins you over — and as the track comes to a gentle close, you’re left feeling poignant and reflective — check out the track here!

HODD - “Superhero”

Stephen William Hodd is a singer-songwriter whose Indie/Rock journey encompasses influences from all over the world — and with his artist moniker “Hodd”, he brings his latest single, “Superhero”; a quiet, idyllic track that flows slowly and smoothly. The track is a relaxing listen from start to finish as his soulful singing takes over the atmosphere and gently lulls you into peace — and with the violins and the delicately strummed acoustic guitars, this track has everything it takes to be a repeat-worthy listen, and gets the basics very beautifully right. With a warm, welcoming mix and master to round things out, this is a winner of a track! Check it out here:

Jóhannes Stefán - “Hush My Darling”

Icelandic folk singer-songwriter Jóhannes Stefán debuts with "Hush My Darling", a poignant duet featuring Guðrún Bjarnadóttir, and for a debut, this track sure doesn’t sound like one! There’s warmth in the mix, width in the vocal layers, and it all comes together rather beautifully to create a lush carpet of sound that stays with you throughout the runtime of the song. The energy of this track is beautifully rendered, as it speaks to themes of gentle love, reassurance and compassion — all in all, coming full circle with the rest of the ensemble really elegantly. There’s also much to appreciate about the drumming, with its gentle rhythms making you sway before you’re ready to admit it. All in all, a beautiful listen! Check it out here:

Naomi Campbell - “Don’t You Mind”

Liverpool-based Americana/Folk artist Naomi Campbell weaves soulful storytelling and rich melodies, blending influences from Sandy Denny to Etta James. On her latest single, “Don’t You Mind”, she brings a sweet, winding rhythm with the clean electric guitars and her powerful, high-register singing that exudes grace and control. The drumming picks the energy up in just the right places as you’re left with emotions that range from empowerment, to sweet happiness; and the piano solos in the middle of the song serve to complete and elevate this song to a level another altogether. Andrew Schneider - “Mermaid Smiled”

Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist Andrew Schneider crafts eclectic music that ranges in influence from rock to psychedelia, to post punk and jazz — a genre-bender in his very essence, he presents his latest track, “Mermaid Smiled”, bringing in synths that remind you of the 80s, songwriting structure that takes just as much from jazz and blues as it does from classic rock, and blends it with instruments that bleed with texture. Be it the brasses that shine at the top, the shuffle of the drum grooves, or the creamy, overdriven guitars, or even his spirited, soulful singing, there’s much to look forward to in this track — a winner, this one!
