Jakob Wedl is a singer and songwriter from Austria who brings a soulful, minimalistic take to pop music — and on his latest single, “pretty backyard”, he brings a beautiful love ballad that’s made up by his soft pianos, his delicate — yet energetic — vocals, and as the beat drops, the song picks up just the perfect proportion of energy as it overcomes you in swathes of emotive delivery, while Jakob delves into themes of vulnerability. Shobsy is the artist moniker of Shane Edward O’Brien, a singer and songwriter based out of Ireland — and embodying the essence of 70s and 80s disco-pop in his sound, he brings a blast from the past in new clothes on his latest single, “Champagne” — seriously, the atmosphere is what he nails on the head right from the very start. The guitars, the funky bass lines, and the broken-up lines of vocals leave you humming and singing along faster than you’re able to admit — and the synths in the background are truly what finish this track off as the glass of vintage champagne that this is.
