LITM Indie Rock Picks This Week Will Energise Your Soul with Therum, psykhi and More!

LITM Rock Picks this week will take you through an entire sonic spectrum from Psychedelic Rock to Detroit-styled Hard Rock and emotional power ballads featuring the talents of Huron Lines, Therum, Erik Sköld, psykhi and Louise Distras. Feel the pure energy of rock in your soul!

Huron Lines - Bad Idea

Huron Lines's latest single “Bad Idea” brings you spectacular riffs, amazing vocals and relatable lyrics. What more could you want from a song? David Mueller’s vocals are the perfect marriage of gruff and Americana and it serves as the glue that holds the guitars and low-end together. The riffs on this piece are groovy and memorable with virtuoso lead sections. Touching on themes of temptation and having the determination to do something even when you know it's a bad idea, the lyrics of the song will speak to your soul as it's a place we have all been in before.

Therum - Sweet Victories/ Sour Defeat

If you are a fan of Pink Floyd, Opeth or Porcupine Tree, then Therum is the musical outfit for you. Lead by the talent of John Luke Melovich, his latest single “Sweet Victories/ Sour Defeat” is a masterclass of Psychedelic Rock. Playing with the feelings of the listener, “Sweet Victories/Sour Defeat” is a slow burn. But that's what makes the song truly special as its nature of building anticipation in you is what pulls you in. The production quality of this song is also in a league of its own with satisfying bass, deep-set drums and guitars with delicious crunch, “Sweet Victories/ Sour Defeat “ is pure psychedelic magic.

Erik Sköld - Half the Way

Erik Sköld’s latest track “Half the Way” is an atmospheric experimental piece of art. Opening on haunting guitars the track immediately sets its tone. The singing is full of passion and heartfelt. It's almost as if Erik has managed to weave three different songs into one with  “Half the Way” as he blends in different singing and instrumentation styles. This is most accentuated in the song's finale as that's where “Half the Way” gets most experimental but it sticks the landing and is a bold piece of music to put out there as a debut single.

psykhi - Dyed in Wool

The first time you listen to “Dyed in Wool” you know that psykhi has created something truly special. Incredibly well-produced the instrumentation and vocals complement each other and softly cushion themselves in your ears creating an incredibly catchy soundscape. The chorus is especially hooky. Holding all of this together is psykhi’s heartfelt signing. Oozing in style psykhi also makes good use of synths and heavy bass to build the landscape of this song. All in all “Dyed in Wool” is a tour de force of psykhi’s talent and will make you groove while tugging at your heartstrings.

Louise Distras - Girl in the Mirror

Strikingly reflective and incredibly poignant in its messaging Louise Distras’latest single “Girl in the Mirror” is an exploration of pain. The repeating lyric “Your pain is never beautiful” is the most striking as it is a thorough repudiation of any notions of self-pity. Using catchy melody lines the song has inklings of The Pretenders but Louise Distras manages to stand unique in her sound. Emotive singing and a sincere message sitting atop a catchy melody “Girl in the Mirror” is everything you'd want from a song.
