Wretch 32 is a UK hip hop veteran known for his unique vocal style and interesting instrumentation. His latest song ‘Whistle’ is the closest he’s come to a quad-core banger. It’s rammed with so many witty one-liners and graceful flows and rhymes that he comes off like the scene’s Oscar Wilde. It’s a huge club banger in the vein of Giggs’s ‘Lock Doh’ and like that song, it features Donae’o - the big daddy of UK rap hooks. Wretch’s bars are what makes it though. His understated delivery puts a certain sharpness in turbocharged political lines like “if they’re offside blow the whistle on em / Black lives matter, go nigger on em.” Easily and effortlessly the best UK rap song released this year.
