For some, guitar’n’drum duos might seem sooo 2014, but London’s Young Romance bring more than a dash of idiosyncrasy to the formula, largely due to a penchant for power-pop hooks. These are delivered via the dialled-down-Kate-Bush vocals of Claire Heywood, who doubles behind the kit, leaving guitarist Paolo Ruiu to supply the crunching overdrive. Their debut album is out in November and, from it, ‘Disappear’ is an exemplar of Young Romance’s cute melodics being run through the raw rock mincer. Catch them at The Girls Are’s Blogtober night at The Finsbury on 17 October.
