The incredible thing about Liana Bank$ new song ‘Benji’ is that it’s actually the twelve bar blues masquerading as an experimental pop song. The contemporary elements are all in its texture, and it sounds like the sort of thing Santigold might have written in her commercial prime. While the lyrics are essentially a materialistic love song to Benji (AKA Benjamin Franklin the face of the hundred dollar bill), there’s a certain humour and energy to the whole ensemble that makes Liana’s sound irresistible.
Liana Bank$ releases her debut LP Insubordinate on October 28th
