The A/V Clvb are characterized by their sonic deviancy and dynamism. With alt-rock as their jump-off genre, the band seeks out beautiful spaces that exist only in their heads. The result is a youthful and unique sound that weaves in influences from shoegaze, dream pop, and other surreal pallets.
The A/V Clvb has released their debut album, ‘Dumbwaiters to Die For’. Across the collection of six tracks, they celebrate 90s youth rhetoric with emo rebellion and mercurial rock synthesis. The soundscapes are reminiscent of bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Title Fight, and Queens of the Stone Age. in the way they elevate the rock genre with sedating blooms and experimental tangents. The album opens with ‘Tell Me I’m Still Alive’. The existential themes are driven by hard riffs and harder beats. Its rhythm cycle is characterized by drastic rises and drops. A fantastic juxtaposition to conceptualize a simultaneous passion and nonchalance for life. Next up, ‘Cellar Door’. The track was released as a teaser to the album. With its distorting textures and melodic buoyancy, it perfectly represents the sonic dualities that the band unpacks across the collection.
‘A Dark Forest Hypothesis’ is led by rolling punk beats, aggressive and playful. They dig for gore and grime with the gritty riffs and roaming guitars. The vocalist showcases an incredible command over the soundscape, both in energy and emotion in a way that is reminiscent of Green Day.
‘asian bread’ is built with dramatic riffs and beat builds. The track forms on the edge of punk, grunge, and acid rock. Its vocals are grounded in emo, allowing a generous space for the lead guitar to roam. The final two tracks are acoustic rock molds, mellow and passionate.
In ‘How to kill an Ostrich’ the band fathoms a heartfelt classic rock. Underscored with blues and sliding melancholy, it sets up for the blues in the concluding track. We see some shoegaze vapors sweeping through, driving to an exhilarating climax. Finally, ‘I Know You Want My Life’. They return to their parlay of energy bursts and sentimental drawls.
A/V Clvb is lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Avery Gordon, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Braeden van Muir, bassist Noah Liddy, and drummer Cameron McLaughlin.
