Review: Cementation Anxiety - Liminal Instability

Kyle Nelson’s dark ambient project Cementation Anxiety releases his second EP, after delivering us In Continual album in December last year. Kyle is based in New Jersey, USA, and he is an element of hardcore punk band Bodiless. He is also an ambient, drone and noise music lover and through processed guitar, field recordings, oscillators, noise machines, hardware tools, he offers his contribution to these genres.

“Precipice”, first track, opens with an ethereal mood, suggesting futuristic and heavenly landscapes, with a drone in the background. A deep strong bass reverberated sound is added from time to time. “Breathless” starts with the same tone, but the bar is raised to other levels. We begin to feel traces of noise, with an apocalyptic scenario on the horizon.

“The Light On Your Fingertips” takes us back to divine territories, where the reverb-filled guitar makes its call, bringing us feelings like melancholy, sadness and hope. “Your Shaking Hands” starts by pointing us the way to the light, in a loop that repeats itself hypnotically and slowly draws us to that brightness that ends up blinding us. “The Thicker The Air” closes the EP intensely, in yet another mesmerizing spiral and disturbing noise hysteria to which it is impossible to remain indifferent.

Liminal Anxiety EP works as a unique piece of music composed in five parts and offers us a distinctive sensory experience.
