Review: Odaiba - Superfunk

With a career spanning over 20 years, Nicko "Soulchildren Odaiba" began releasing music as Odaiba in 2019 with the EP "Locus". Since then, he has pursued a path full of consistency and knowledge, presenting himself as a producer in which funk, disco and soul influences blend with more contemporary approaches and sophisticated production.

Based in France, he has collaborated with many renowned artists in France and created instrumental pieces for different purposes, such as Redbull events.

It is interesting to notice in his productions the influences of the French touch scene. For example, in the "Locus" EP, you can see filtered disco appearing here and there. Or, if we take a look at the recent "Superfunk" it is impossible to detach ourselves from the French touch roots of the vocoder used. However, it would also be unfair to approach Odaiba's music exclusively to this musical current.

In "Superfunk", the organic way in which Odaiba makes the bass line sound, the wise combination with the whole group of synthesizers and the interplay with the drums only confirm that we are dealing with a music producer at the level of the best. And to this knowledge, he adds a master aesthetic sensibility. I call your attention to the pad/synthesizer that appears at 2:36, a small-great detail of "Superfunk" that closes this incredible song with a golden key!
