LITM Rock Picks curates intense and experimental sounds from Reckless Hallows, Packetloss and others

In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we feature intense rock soundscapes from artists Reckless Hallows, Packetloss, Subatomic Strangers, Izzy Skinner and Richard Tyler Epperson.

Reckless Hallows - Another Day

Reckless Hallows is out with their self-titled debut album and “Another Day” is the opening song of the album. They bring the world of alternative and indie rock alive with their melodic riffs and experimental elements. As the song begins, there’s a marching band drum roll on a distortion guitar riff, before the vocals start. From the first verse of the song, you can hear the tight basslines, scorching riffs and straight drum beats compliment the textured vocals and create an electrifying soundscape. One that taps into the emotions and modulations of the rock ballad and conveys the same to the listener without missing a beat.

Packetloss - Light Of The Fire

The Irish-based punk rock band, Packetloss, is out with their new album “Reconnected” and “Light Of The Future” is the 6th song in the album. After playing and creating music together from different places online, the band met for the first time in person after releasing two of their EPs in February 2024. As a result, Packetloss is a band that brings together the individuality and creative expressions of each of the members, exploring themes of isolation and introspection. The song “Light Of The Future” has a heavy punk-rock sound with the hues of indie rock music. The reverbed vocals give a contrast to the heavy-hitting riffs and the intensity of the music takes the listener on a trip.

Subatomic Strangers - The Edge

“The Edge” is the new single from the upcoming second album by the Belgium-based four-piece band “Subatomic Strangers” and it’s an intense rock ballad. A synth melody accompanied by the baseline opens the song followed by the mesmerizing vocals of Sharon which fills the soundscape. When the overdrive guitars kick in, you can feel the genre shift to a more aggressive rendition with a growling vocal layered over Sharon’s soothing voice. The song paints a contrast between the mellow soundscape and the rough gritty verses. At the interlude, an eastern tune emerges swiftly followed by the haunting vocals and the rising instrumentation that breaks down to the chorus. Apart from the musical novelty of the single, “The Edge” is a song about perseverance and hope.

Izzy Skinner - Mala Suerte

Izzy Skinner creates a masterpiece with her innovative blend of alt-folk music with jazz and classical music in “Mala Suerte”. Words can escape you if you try to describe the experience of listening to this ethereal melody. The most tantalizing voice brilliantly wielded over a bed of bass notes, soft percussion and piano is featured. At about the middle, the violin comes to the limelight playing a graceful tune backed by the instrumentation. The piano also takes centre stage with the drums supporting it. Like a jazz band improvising on stage with a head, the song “Mala Suerte” travels through different segments and moods mixing genres and sounds to create a truly novel piece of art.

Richard Tyler Epperson - All My Life

Richard Tyler Epperson pays tribute to his father by releasing his new single “All My Life”. The inspiration behind the song came from an acoustic demo played by his father about 25 years ago, on an old cassette tape. Richard pours out his music and heart to recreate the song in honour of his father and what emerges is a beautiful composition, infused with rock and poetic lyrics. Part of his upcoming album “Fragmented Night”, the song is personal to Richard as it also shows his growth as an artist. This artist, based out of Salt Lake City having a decade of experience in the music industry explores variations of rock genre to deliver a banger.
