“Gore Confetti” is the latest EP album from the London-based band I am Your Wife!. It is an experience through obscure and abstract concepts knitted together with hard-hitting guitar riffs, dynamic drum patterns and the essence of punk sprinkled all over. This 22:53 minutes EP album encompasses seven songs, each with the soul of rock and a pinch of innovation. I am Your Wife! makes bold statements with their unapologetic tone and gritty riffs with “Gore Confetti”.
The EP album opens with the song “Splatterpunk Chic”, a track with ecstatic drum beats, fast lyrics and guitar leads with gothic influences. With intricate arrangement and chaos, I am Your Wife! crafts an alternative rock track with guitar parts that seem to have a mind of their own. The second song “When Tigers Used to Smoke” is one that evolves as it progresses. As the song begins, you can hear a manic laugh that seems to echo from the soundscape before the electrifying guitar riffs and the pounding synth take over. Even though there is a possible psychedelic, electronic vibe at the beginning, the song quickly transforms into a heavy punk track with interesting elements.
“Drainer” starts off with a powerful drum beat and a groovy bass line. The guitar leads hack away at the melody while the bass and the drums maintain the atmosphere of the song. The heavily sampled vocals add flair to the immaculate and tight composition. The fourth song of the album “Monsters” takes it down a notch and brings in the groove. Beginning with an announcement about a monster, a retro vibe quickly comes to being with the quirky guitar leads. As layers get added, the track sounds deeper and richer. Towards the end, there’s a gritty guitar solo that rocks the soundscape.
“Skexicated Coconut” brings it right up with a bass and drum solo opening the song. As the soaring guitar riffs emerge, the vocals follow the same energy level of the song. The drum beats pump up along the way and outline the entire melody. After that, at every variation, the drum beat and baseline follow the vocals adding to the breakdowns. “Anvilheads” is a short and sweet track that jumps into the groove without wasting a second. As the faded drums accompany the passionate vocals, the song maintains density throughout the run time without alternating for a second.
I think the I am Your Wife! saved the best for the last and so at number seven of the EP is the song “Man In A Quarry” and the song does not fail to leave a lasting impression. At the song’s core is the bass groove, around which the instrumentations are added on. Layers of guitar leads, and thumping drum beats follow with a story about a man in a quarry. The fierce soundscapes escalates as the song progresses. The song comes to a standstill with samples and atmospheric intensity amplifying slowly as it crescendos to the final chorus and the gripping guitar solo.
