Bloomfield Machine is the creation of Brian Kassan, a composer and multi-instrumentalist. He is a classically trained keyboardist, guitarist, bassist, lyricist, and songwriter who employs music as a medium of simultaneous exploration and expression. His latest release is an album titled, ‘Left to Our Own Devices’ in which he sets out the ideologies of Bloomfield Machine. Largely experimental and conceptual, the postmodern compositions are underpinned with existential deliberations. The artist delves into metaphysical absolutes that drive to the forefront, the self-destructive impulses of human nature.
It is profound in its cold rationalism and contemplative in its avant garde. The tracks present avenues for self-reflection and nudges the listener towards reform. Brian fathoms futuristic universes and embellishes them with sci-fi prompts and lets it all intuitively unravel. The album is a cryptic masterpiece, detailed with ethereal imagery, lofty concepts, and uncommon design. It compels us to dig deep into the vast fogs, to odyssey through resonant melodic lines and formless sonic frames to discover, in a way, our own consciousness.
Tracks like ‘The Imperative’ and ‘Greeble’ have a melody line at its core that traverses through a depraved soundscape. Sparks of luminosity and harmony lead us to dazed epiphanies. While other tracks like ‘Inventing Hope’ and ‘Supernormal’ are composed with an inherent theme of divergence, variance, and complexity. These tracks distort realities, making the mind demand for explanations.
It is in a way reminiscent, at least in terms of cerebral quotients and evocations, of Pink Floyd. It showcases the artist’s love for the absurdities of life that are often overlooked and ignored. Even the way the artist views production is inspired. All the tracks are aligned with an acute strangeness that is made stranger with progression. And this, without compromising on the forming thematic context.
The album carries sixteen tracks, each one enchanting in its own way. Bloomfield Machine debuted in 2017 with ‘Arguing with Success’ and has since deployed five albums that color their discographies with psychedelic, logical sequences, sonic illusions, and more. Listen Now!
