9 o’ clock Nasty have just released their full length sophomore album, ‘Culture War 23’. The thirteen track collection reinforces their whimsy, rhetoric, and satirical narratives. With soundscapes infused with groovy funk and gritty riffs, they forge rebellion in the old-school way. It’s edgy, fresh, and new. Listen Now!
The album opens with ‘Too Cool’. It is rigged with powerful bass lines, anthemic verses, and inciting drum work. They reference a lot of 80s and 90s rock styles in how they use riffs to dimensionalize sound and evocation. The track shares the presentation value and style of tracks like ‘Mood is Low’ and ‘Mickey Humpper’.
Bolstered on an intense beat wagon, ‘Low Fat Jesus’ is the second track. Its experimental vocal and melody line is superimposed by well-formed riff plays. We see some excellent drum fills across the track that elevate the thematic power of the track while demonstrating the band’s incredible style.
‘Savage Mechanic’ and ‘Disco Investors’ are also portrayed with dynamic rock frameworks, wound with charismatic rhythm and unpredictable melody lines.
The track ‘Make Your Ghost’ wages the cultural war with vocals. Apart from its emphatic vocal delivery, it retains the experimental energy that was introduced by its predecessor. Its frames are incongruent stylistically but appealing cerebrally. ‘The Gastronaut’ is a slow drawl, loaded with cynicism and sarcasm.
‘Idiot Skin’ and ‘Foxhole’ mark the beginning of blues on the album. These tracks are slow and gradual in their growth, accentuated by mellow keys and whimsical bass grooves to go with it.
‘Sleepy Policeman’ and ‘The Rise’ are glazed melodic rock tracks. It’s nuanced with sentiment, societal consciousness, and humanistic appeal that resonates with the listener. The melodies are straightforward and simple, with the vocals standing up for the theme. ‘Bird of Happiness’ concludes the track with luminous guitar melodies. Featuring the talent of artist Meg Cratty, the track has a sunny disposition; which is filtered through loose riffs, chill grooves, and uplifting set ups. Listen Now!
The album is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
