LITM Rock Picks This Week: The Bad Shots and more!

In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we curate a mix of artists like The Bad Shots and more!

The Bad Shots - “Quarrels”

Alt-rock newcomers The Bad Shots are a British-French trio known for their high-energy performances blending a variety of influences like funk, indie rock and alternative styles that reflect brilliantly in their latest single, “Quarrels”. Starting off sedate and mellow with a clean guitar line, the energy rushes at you with the entry of the percussion and the power chords, all while the energy builds up steadily with the basses and the subtle finesse in the drumming. As the song takes you through its journey, you’re left wondering where you came from — and what’s got you smiling ear to ear. Take a listen to the track here!

Monohaze - “Peruvian Dreams”

Monohaze, the alt-rock project of Christian Wosimski and Justus Wilcken, put out a brand of melancholic, whiskey-friendly funk and blues rock that impresses on their latest single, “Peruvian Dreams” — blending elements of psychedelic rock with its minimalistic instrumentation and elegance in presentation, the vocals are dreamy and ethereal as sounds become vast landscapes of sound, all held together by the beautiful melodic arrangement. The song’s journey with the vocals and the subtle chords in the background takes you through ebbs and swells of energy that all come together to make a winner of a listen. Check out the track here!

Jeff Vidov - “Running In Place”

Canadian-born composer and pianist Jeff Vidov gained early recognition by winning the SOCAN Composer’s Award for his orchestral work "AWAKEN" in 1994 — and since then, has been the subject of numerous accolades in his illustrious career. On his latest single, “Running In Place”, he brings an uptempo rock sound filled with the influences of folk rock, rock and roll, and some classic rock for good measure — and throughout the song, energy is never in short supply as the guitars keep the listener excellent company. Jeff’s vocal delivery is of particular interest here, with his clean and articulate delivery making for an engaging listening experience. Take a listen to the track here!

Jphonol- “Time & Space”

John Harrison, known by his moniker Jphonol, blends the earthy slide guitar of Led Zeppelin III with the dreamy melancholy of Pink Floyd and the laid-back vibes of Kurt Vile and The War on Drugs — and on his latest single, “Time & Space”, he further cements his place as an influential figure in the North Carolina music scene. Taking pages out of classic rock and bringing in elements of blues rock and experimenting with sound textures and melodic composition from beginning to end, there’s a certain allure to this track — devoid of any vocals, there is still expression aplenty ringing through the guitars with their slow ascending licks, as well as the deliberate, precise drumming — all in all, a winner of a track! Sansyou - “Spaces In Between”

Sansyou are a bunch of experimental musicians best known for blurring the boundaries between sight and sound when it comes to their musical presentations — and on their latest single, the title track from their album, “Spaces In Between”, they present a dreamy atmosphere with warm, welcoming electric guitars laid elegantly atop a groovy bass line, while the drumming impresses with its punctuation, panache and precision. With an almost ethereal quality to the track, it very quickly transports you to a world beyond — and keeps you there with a charm that’s unmistakable. All in all, a great, solid listen!
