LITM Singer-Songwriter Picks This Week: Gareth Dunlop and more!

This week’s edition of LITM Singer-Songwriter Picks features pieces from Gareth Dunlop and more!

Gareth Dunlop - “I Don’t Feel You”

Gareth Dunlop is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter known for his emotive, introspective music, which has featured in popular TV series like Nashville and This Is Us. With a sound influenced by legends like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, he brings his latest single, “I Don’t Feel You” — a delightful synth-pop number that takes one right back to the flavour of the 90s and 00s with its gritty basses, pads in the background, and arpeggiated melodies. The vocal performance and the expressive drumming watch this song come together quite nicely, while the lush synths hold the song together — all in all, a winner! Take a listen to it here:

Nigel Brown - “Freedom Beats The Drum”

Nigel Brown is a London-based singer-songwriter known for his prolific layering of melodies and nostalgia reminiscent of 60s and 70s classical rock — and on his latest project, “Freedom Beats The Drum”, he presents the title track to his 15-track magnum opus, that from beginning to end, doesn’t cease to bring a smile to the eye of the listener as the various guitar, choir harmonies, and the slow-paced, soulful drumming performance all come together. There’s much to appreciate about the vocal performance, that, with its soulful delivery and happy, optimistic themes, presents quite the compelling listening prospect. Check out the track here!

La Need Machine - “The Mountain”

La Need Machine is a Seattle-based indie band known for their melodic, thought-provoking music that blends indie rock with social commentary — and on their latest track, “The Mountain”, they present a poetic, gentle-natured indie rock track that blends influences from pop music, funk, and classic rock. The strings in the intro set the stage perfectly as the vocals then take over to present optimistic, loving themes, as the ambient sound production impresses with its clever use of atmosphere — as the track explodes into the chorus, they’re subtly punctuated by the sound of rumbling thunder in the background, giving the track an extra sense of oomph. All in all, such a beautiful listen! Check it out here:
