LITM Rock Picks This Week: Mohawk Castle and more!

In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we bring the best of Mohawk Castle, and more!

Mohawk Castle - “Shed Tears”

Mohawk Castle, the solo project of Erik David Hidde from Long Beach, CA, blends indie-rock with electronic-trap production, creating a unique sound with electronic synths, trap beats, post-rock guitars, deep bass, and rock drums; and on their latest single, “Shed Tears”, they bring a mysterious, dark allure to the fore; be it the ominous pianos and the anticipating beckon of the drumming, or the bleak vocals in the back, it’s quite the Nine Inch Nails sound as they explore textures and sounds atop a solid foundation of basses and percussion; resulting in the kind of track that you listen to when you want to push your own boundaries as a listener — take a listen to the track here!

The Lunar Keys - “Bleed”

Meet The Lunar Keys, the eclectic and energetic band combining anxious energy with a unique blend of vocals, bass, drums, keyboards, guitar, accordion, and violin, featured regularly on BBC Introducing — and on their latest single, “Bleed”, they bring a charming ballad with soulful pianos, guitars and drumming that make up a solid foundation for the vocals to shine through. The sections of the songs flow elegantly and effortlessly into one another, weaving a beautiful story with their sound that stays with you long after — while you catch yourself humming the chorus more times than you’d like to admit; take a listen to the track here!

Luna Waves - “Fragments”

Luna Waves, led by Bedford-based multi-instrumentalist Rob Muir, crafts dark, dreamy psych rock and ethereal dream pop, influenced by '90s alt rock legends and a myriad of contemporary artists — and on their latest release, “Fragments”, they further their sound quite beautifully. Part of their album, “Comedowns”, the track blends their angelic harmonies with the steady twang of the guitars and the basses in the background, while a poignant wave overcomes the listener as they tune into and find themselves hypnotised by the vocals and delivery. The chorus section is quite the tear-jerker should you find yourself particularly vulnerable — and that’s outstanding, in my opinion. Take a listen to the track here!

Max Norton - “Nothing In This World”

Max Norton is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer based in London, crafting songs centered around themes of hope, change, and enjoyment — and on his latest single, “Nothing In This World”, he brings a soulful ballad on love and hope; while the warm rhythm guitars stitch together an energetic jive from the outset of the track, Max’s vocals fit perfectly into the themes, and his delivery is expressive and emotive. The drumming keeps things swimmingly smooth, and the result is the kind of track that you throw your head back and just waft away into. Take a listen to the track here!

The Chris Ruben Band - “MONEY”

The Chris Ruben Band, led by Chris Ruben, makes waves delivering irresistibly catchy material that blends influences from Jimi Hendrix to Tame Impala — and on their latest single, “Money”, their motto is to make sure you’re grooving and dancing throughout; and they pull it off! With their high-energy choruses and the fast-paced delivery and instrumentation, even bit of this track screams feel-good nostalgia that’ll have you smiling to yourself. The vocals are the cherry on top of the brilliant instrumentation composed of the guitars, the precise drumming and great levels of ambience, creating an atmosphere that’s beyond enjoyable.
