Autorub, based out of New York, offers a great mix of modern and classic rock sounds coupled with sarcastic political humor. Led by multi-instrumentalist Michael Corn, formerly of the post-grunge band 'Sammy' [Geffen] and the critically acclaimed 'Heydevils,' Autorub continues to produce catchy and fun rock and roll; their influences span decades of rock, blending modern bands like Weezer, Foo Fighters, and Green Day with classics like The Stones, The Who, The Police, Hendrix, and Sabbath— and on their latest EP, “The Miss Mace Mixes”, they go into production with 432Hz music— keep reading for my thoughts!
The first track, the title track, is a fun, uptempo number with its pianos, its dance-worthy percussion and the endearing vocals that have the listener in a chokehold from the word go. There’s much to love about the melodic composition, which finds itself to be cheery, endearing, and overall, executed rather well. Top work here!
Segueing into the second track, “Electronic Dance Mace”, we’re now introduced to a deep house packaged in a bit of a downtempo avatar; with the processed vocal textures, and arpeggiated synths that make up the main melodies of this song; until the guitars kick in with their angry, raw power; navigating the melodic passages with grace and power; all culminating in an execution that nails the energy balance on the head, and leaves the listener more than smiling.
The production on both tracks is deep and layered, with great sound design and balance in the sound, as Autorub look at maximising impact with each element they use. The mixing is also tight and well-balanced, with a warm sound to the masters that make them comfortable, enjoyable listens. All in all, very tastefully done!
