In this edition of LITM Pop Picks, we have myah, Jes Marie and more in the studio!
myah - “Everything”
Bringing a candy bar aesthetic to her style of songwriting, myah presents her latest single, “Everything”; a cinematic pop number that does not shy away from using big, epic-sounding percussion mixed with electronic elements to concoct myah’s voice into a tight, very well-controlled affair. The energy in the song is also worth props as she effortlessly dances between and in registers, and the harmonies are also great, rich and layered. Take a listen here!
Into The Outside Box - “Búho”
Into the Outside Box is a new project led by Claudette Visco, making a mark for themselves merging discord with fire, infusing jazz-inflected Latin beats and harmonic oblivion, and coming out with a sound that is very, very distinctly their own. On their latest single, “Búho”, Claudette brings her alto natural voice to create a booming sound that retains its hypnosis and its magic throughout the song— while the beat in the background weaves a fun Latin fiesta, perfect for enjoying while the sun’s setting, perhaps around a bonfire— check out the track here!
D. Watkins - “Slow Wine”
D. Watkins, a versatile artist, singer, producer, and songwriter, discovered his love for music at the tender age of 4, influenced by legends like Michael Jackson, Prince, and more— and while writing and producing his songs himself, he brings a trademark blend of afro, reggaeton and pop vocals to his latest single, “Slow Wine”— justifiably to the name, this song is a downtempo, chill, laid back affair that takes being suave and smooth very seriously. The mix is solid and all-round well-controlled with a tasteful ensemble of instruments like the marimbas and the shakers, making for an excellent listen. Check it out here!
Jes Marie - “Girls’ Night Out”
Jes Marie is a rising star in the country/pop scene, blending the infectious energy of Kelsea Ballerini with the epic hooks of Shania Twain— and sprinkling in just enough of her own pizzazz to put out banger singles like “Girls’ Night Out”— a true Friday night anthem for the ladies in the audience, the track maintains a stomping, steady cadence throughout, while the electric pre-choruses and hooks play perfectly with the proto-electronic production style, making for a fun, uptempo electro pop number. Check it out here!
Michael V. Doane - “Let’s Go!”
Michael V. Doane is a versatile writer and singer spanning all musical genres— from childhood recordings to Broadway stages, European tours to Manhattan clubs, his musical journey is as diverse as his experiences. His latest single, “Let’s Go!” is a signature pump-one-up number, with its sterling high vocals and its express pop rock cadence in the drums, while richly layered vocals soundtrack the listening experience quite swimmingly. There is also much to appreciate about the chops in the percussion, which makes short work of keeping things interesting, while an excellent melodic arrangement brings things nicely together.
