In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we bring the best of Moon Metro, and more!
Moon Metro - “The Court”
The brainchild of Tillmann Frohberg, Moon Metro brings a warm, fast-paced twist to pop rock that derives its unique taste from elements of pop and blues - and on their latest single, “The Court”, they embrace that sound wholeheartedly from start to finish. Forming part of their 5-piece EP, “Explorer”, this track really does bring it all; from the starry, ambient intro guitar riffs to the drumming that sounds tight and fun, this track far from rests on the laurels of the rest of the album, and propels itself in its own unique right. The vocals are great, with this radio-esque sound with their snapback delays and the subtle accompaniment from the basses; all in all, an enjoyable listen. Take a listen here!
Lonely Richard - “Tide Pools”
Lonely Richard, Alexander Carr-Engler and William Kahn shine on their latest single, “Tide Pools” — adopting a laid-back, easygoing sound that only a-beckons the listener from the get go. The relaxed strumming of the acoustic guitars plays excellently with the subtle energies of the drumming, making for a nice, harmonious blend in dynamics that breathe absolute serendipity. The melodies are great, easy to get stuck in your head, and to remain there long after. Couple this with a spacey, wide mix, and you have yourselves quite a nifty little listen on your hands! The Margaret Hooligans - “The Stonehengers”
Fast becoming a regular feature on our “Best This Week” features, The Margaret Hooligans have been steadfast in cementing their place as a force to be reckoned with; their layered, experimental sound in rock blending Cream and such other greats of the classic rock era. On their latest single, “The Stonehengers”, they put the pedal down (if you can excuse the pun) and take us through their signature sound of rich, lush music that takes no getting used to, before you’re grooving and swaying with it. The guitars are loud and take the spotlight gladly, while the vocals and their harmonies play effortless support. Take a listen here!
Ometra - “Choices”
The brainchild of Carlo Gervasini, Ometra delves into the heavier, more melancholic rock sound - their harder, more powerful rock sound is only punctuated further by their performance on “Choices”, their latest track. Forming part of the “Choices” EP as the title track, this track really has it all; experimentation in meters and time signatures, complex, heavy passages with the guitar riffing, and the haunting, Opeth-esque vocals with their sky-high registers and smart, powerful melodic narratives. The mix is tight and precise, and lets the harmonies shine, and your emotions unsettle, almost perfectly in magnitude. Check out the track here!
Lili-Violet - “Blue”
Born and raised in the Hills of Naarm/Melbourne, Lili-Violet writes from the heart, tackling topics like sexuality, identity, and disability with fun, relatability, and sass — and on their latest single, “Blue”, they bring a fun, uptempo rock sound that takes perhaps a page out of the book of great pop rock; from the bass line to the guitars, there’s a distinct twang of country pop that also shines through; and as the choruses ring through, you’re brought the energy by the synths in the background that make light work of filling the mix up and powering up the song rather nicely. The outro to the song retains power and balance, making for a great listen! Check out the track here:
