LITM Pop Picks This Week, featuring Atlin Morgan and more!

In this edition of LITM Pop Picks, we have Atlin Morgan, Jeff Vidov and more!

Alessia De Gasperis - “Evil Eye”

Formerly known as Kai, Alessia DeGasperis seamlessly transitioned from her success with Flume to fully embodying her own artistry, captivating audiences with her voice and spirit as she reintroduced herself under her given name— and on her latest single, “Evil Eye”, she brings an eclectic fusion of electronic elements into her predominantly pop sound. The melodic writing is of particular notice here, with its unconventional harmony structure and its focus on negative harmonies that create a sense of oscillating tension that both grip and release the listener from a trance equally easily. There is also much to appreciate about the production that takes on a more minimalistic approach from her former future bass sound, this time opting to go for a sound that relies on the basses and the gentle acoustics in the background, making for a rewarding listen. Small Black Arrows - “Trojan Horse”

Small Black Arrows make cool, unique music that mixes folk, pop, and funk. They use all sorts of different sounds, from folk to R&B, and they like to try new things with their instruments— and on their latest single, “Trojan Horse”, they capture the essence of minimalist rock and perfect their pop rock sound further. From its infectious chorus to the sky-high synths, their music feels real and down-to-earth; and is brought together with a kind of cohesion that cements this approach of theirs as their own, signature sound. An absolute delight to listen to! Check it out here!

Odelet - “Pisces Pie”

Odelet, originally from Detroit but now on the West Coast, is a versatile artist who blends different styles of music— from her jazz and blues-infused take on minimalist pop to dreamy soundscapes, she brings it all together elegantly on her latest single, “Pisces Pie”— a harmonious summer cocktail of jazz, R&B and soul elements that come together to create quite the magical listening experience. The pianos pipe up with their energy, while Odelet’s voice shines through in a whisper-like softness, making this the kind of listen that would bring one comfort. Loved listening to this track! With a whole host of laurels to his name like working with Pulitzer-winning composers and more, he brings all his expertise into his latest track, “Oh mi da dey di”- a fun, uptempo number that captures the essence of liveliness, and presents it with polish and punch that reminds unwavering throughout the runtime of the track with all its various elements. There is also much to appreciate about the tight, controlled mix and master that wraps things up elegantly. Check out the track here

Atlin Morgan - “Can’t Let Go”

Atlin Morgan, originally from Vancouver, started her musical journey as a classical singer but later pursued a path as a singer-songwriter, drawing inspiration from jazz legends like Ella Fitzgerald— and on her latest single, “Can’t Let Go”, she captures the essence of piano-driven, jazz-injected melancholic adventure-sound of her genre with radiant confidence and perfection. From her delicate vocal lines and her lyrics, the pianos feel like the perfect accompaniment to Atlin’s wallowing as she longs over not being able to let go; and we can’t either. A chilling, sobering listen that is just plainly brilliant. Check it out here!
