At just 18, Stockport's TRP commands the indie scene with electrifying performances and devoted crowds. Hailed as "Manchester's next greatest success," they've sold out venues nationwide, their melodic prowess and soaring choruses earning BBC Radio 6 spins and acclaim. After a sold-out debut tour, they're back in 2024 with headline shows and a hometown celebration at O2 Ritz Manchester. With their debut EP, “Before It’s Gone”, they bring a sound that’s sure to catapult them into higher echelons of success— keep reading for my thoughts!
The opener to “Before It’s Gone”, is the title track— and the guitar solos weep and scream in joy at the hands of the player, while the vocals do their magic, keeping the energy of the song grounded yet very put-together and infectious— and this theme continues on the second track, “I’ll Be There”, this time manifesting as a much more uptempo affair, where the drums show no signs of slowing down; a good thing, I say, for the energy of the song keeps you hooked from start to finish. The pop punk sound works perfectly on this track, continuing into the closer for the album, “Grateful For Nothing”. This forms the perfect wrap to this album with its slower cadence, while the acoustics ring out much more prominently; and the vocals shine through beautifully.
There is also much to appreciate about the production that sounds comprehensive and very well-done, with each element shining in its own space, and the balance in the mix being outstanding; with wafty sounds and great use of dynamics, this is one well-produced album. All in all, “Before It’s Gone”, is just the beginning, I believe— and it begs the question of how The Rolling People are going to outdo themselves— mind you, I think it’s hard.
