Welcome to LITM Rock Picks this week featuring The Amber List, Russ Nelson, Repeat, and more!
The Amber List - “Another Sunset”
If one were asked to picture a golden-hour sunset with wind blowing as they blew down the freeway, well, quite a picturesque sight; and the perfect soundtrack to this visual? “Another Sunset”, by The Amber List. Adopting a classic-rock, guitar-heavy sound, this track also leans quite effectively into vocal prowesses and great melodic writing to create just the perfect amount of drama. The piano parts towards the middle of the song are also a great touch, and all in all, there’s so few songs that get this vibe so deliciously right, and this one more than does. Russ Nelson - “5 AM”
When one listens to “5 AM” by Russ Nelson, they’re immediately transported to the brand of eerie, ominous rock made famous by The Police and similar greats; and every breath you take, you’re grooving with the drums as you think thoughts that best remain in the twilight hours; and the guitars and drums are here to soundtrack that perfectly. There’s much drama and flair in the songwriting, too, creating and maintaining the dark energy of this song quite effectively all the way to the very end. Wrap this in a great mix and master, and you have yourself a winner of a track; check it out here!
Repeat - “Not Enough”
A newly formed punk rock band from Sweden, Repeat bring an energy-infused rock sound to the masses with their latest single, “Not Enough”. Right off the bat, there is energy and dynamics enough in this song to keep you at the edge of your seat, as infectious groove takes over after another; and the sparse, yet well-done vocals chime in time and again, returning this album to the punk rock roots of the band. The song maintains a consistently high tempo throughout the track, and that translates into a very high-energy listening experience that is sure to reward and command rewinds. Pale Cousin - “Refuse”
Pale Cousin, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer embraces his Anglo-Irish roots, blending post-punk, jazz and organic rock elements in his music; bringing his latest single, “Refuse” to the fore with a distinct flavour and sound. Right from the midtempo percussion to the solos that scream in the background, every element of this production is live with energy, and the vocals top it off really nicely. As the song draws to a close, we’re left with the ring of the guitars looming in our heads, with every second prior to that having been a rewarding listen. Check out the track here!
RISE - “Without You”
Forming part of the latest album “Memories And Possibilities” from the quartet from Liverpool, England, “Without You” by RISE is the kind of song you’d envision heard sung by thousands of fans at an arena, for just how infectious the melodies here are; right from the minute they roll off of the tongue of the vocalist, there’s an overwhelming urge to just sing along— and I mean that as a high compliment. The rest of the ensemble plays excellent support, and we’re presented with an excellently done package, sure to awaken your inner classic rock ballad fan; check out the track here!
