LITM Rock Picks this week brings us fresh new releases from the houses of Andy Smythe, OCEXNS and more!
Andy Smythe - Poetry In Exile
With his refreshing Britpop sound that brings together elements from all across the British Isles, Andy Smythe is all set to amaze with his latest track, "Poetry In Exile", forming the title track for the album with the same name. Befitting of an album title track, this song is filled with vivid harmonies and melodies, as the lyrics and vocals tell a story in eloquent metaphors and smooth-flowing lines, with the fiddle and the rest of the ensemble to keep steady, heady company. There's enough in this track to keep you engaged throughout, and forms an excellent window into what the rest of the album may be like. Check out the track here!
OCEXNS - Headstrong
Right from the start of the track, the infectious energy on OCEXNS' latest track, "Headstrong", is sure to amaze; with its energetic guitar riffage and proud bass work, it does a solid job laying down a fun and enthusiasm-filled foundation to the track that only gets better as the track progresses. The vocals are another easy standout on this album, with the kind of youthful, festive spirit that powered, and continues to power the listeners of today. As we slowly draw to the close of the track, we're left hunting for the rewind button for a much-earned replay; check out the track here!
The Avelons - Chit Chat
Taking a bit of a more sombre, emotive turn with their latest single, The Avelons bring forth a product cooked to perfection on their latest single, "Chit Chat"-- with endearing, soulful vocals that take your heart captive right from the first breath; only to keep going as the melodies evolve, and the energy settles into what I can only describe as a warm cocoon of comfort. This display is supported exceptionally well by the clean guitar parts in the back as well as the tight, precise drumming action in the track-- and overall, makes for an excellent listen. Luna Waves - Half Awake
Taking a stroll down memory lane, we're greeted with the softer rock sound of the 80s and 90s, reimagined for today with the latest single by Luna Waves, called "Half Awake"-- and every bit of it is engaging and magnetic! With its elaborate melodic structure that relies on countermelodies and unconventional harmonies to create ever so slightly more emotive impact, there's a lot to appreciate about the songwriting that plays in tandem with the production to yield a great, amazingly listenable track. Coupled with the sky-high, wide sound of the track, every second is an enthralling listen. Check out the track here!
Mel Gaynor - Run
With its distinctly sepia-tinted view of song structure and melodies that make you feel good within right from the first second, "Run" is the perfect kind of track to throw on when you're driving off into the sunset, with its storytelling and lyricism, which are big highlights on the track. The messaging of the track shines through really nicely as the production envelops the listener in a warm blanket of sound with its inviting signature, and the result is a track that is enjoayble ten listens down as it is the first.
