Red Kate has brought us a wonderful mix of punk rock themes and tunes with their latest body of work “Exit Strategy”. This album has 12 high-octane tracks that will leave you banging your head and completely rocking out. So explore this wonderful up-and-coming punk rock outfit starting with this album!
Opening on “Don't Think Too Much” you are greeted with a flurry of aggressive and signature punk rock sounds that instantly load adrenaline into your veins. With a more classic and retro punk sound, this track is also a blast from the past and nails the basics of the genre. Continuing this theme is the second track of this album “She’s in Love”. This song has a very smooth transition with the riffs and overall sound being a logical continuation of what you were introduced to with the opening. “Escape Room” departs from the familiar power chord laden sound to bring us a comparatively downtempo track before we are blasted with energy again with “I Don’t Want to Hear About It”. “Home of the Slave” has the most interesting riffs and my favourite guitar work on this entire album making it one of the many standouts in an album full of standouts. Closing out the first half of this album is “No Solution” which brings us a consistent driving melody that has you grooving and bobbing your head along to the beat. “Mind Control” and “Hole” take us back to the signature yet amazingly fresh punk sound Red Kate has carved out for themselves as they open up the second half of this experience. “Urban Church” is yet another unique track on this album that has more of a rockabilly-punk sound that is truly a delight to listen to. This outfit also shows off their songwriting prowess throughout this album does an equal amount of heavy lifting as their technical prowess and this is most evident on “Lost Connection” and “Iraqi Girl”. But this outfit has saved the best for last, with their certified masterpiece coming right at the end with “Shut It Down”. This track takes everything amazing about this listening experience and concentrates it into one three and half minute long experience. Red Kate has absolutely nailed this track and this whole album and they close it out with a bang.
Every song in this album flows cohesively from one to the next making for a listening experience that is so potent you find yourself fully lost in it. I loved listening to this album and so will you. So go give it a listen and be sure to show Red Kate some love!
