LITM Pop Picks This Week, featuring Sophia Bavishi and more!

In this edition of LITM Pop Picks, we have Sophia Bavishi and more!

V. Contreras - “Done Playing Small”

V. Contreras is a powerhouse vocalist, songwriter, and storyteller whose career spans from performing with a jazz band at age 12 to collaborating with industry legends — and on her latest single, “Done Playing Small”, she brings an emotional, impactful performance. Contreras shines with her emotive, heartfelt vocals, and the production doesn’t waste a second making you wait for the impact — and the energy of the track is something to look quite forward to — and as the choruses wash you over, you’re left in awe. All in all, a winner of a track! Check it out here:

Neon Gru - “Something Special”

Neon Gru is a London-based alt-pop band blending intricate soundscapes, unconventional rhythms, and experimental production themes in their latest single, “Something Special” — and right off the bat, the alt-pop production shouts at you with its charming funk/electro flavor. The basses are alive and articulate, and the vocals are soothing to listen to — and as the drops approach, there’s a shine of energy that comes through the mix quite brilliantly. The presentation of this track overall is where the true magic lies, and safe to say, this one doesn’t miss a beat. Check out the track here!

leeek - “Time’s Up”

Nordic indie/R&B group leeek creates soulful, mellow pop with chillhop and R&B influences, blending catchy hooks and dreamy melodies with an edgy charm, quite evident in their latest track, “Time’s Up” — and right from the start of the track, the buildup to the energy stands out. As the bass drops with elements of 80s and 90s acid house in the synths, the string basses play excellently with the uptempo, cheery guitars in the background, and serve as a solid foundation to the vocals laid atop it. The vocals, on mention, are well-presented, and the singing is emotive, engaging, and overall, immaculate. With much to look forward to on this track, it’s a repeat-worthy listen for sure. Check it out here!

Azileli - “Rebuilding”

Azileli, aka Eliza Willmott, is a South London producer, vocalist, and visual artist blending electronic production, alternative R&B, and trip-hop rhythms with organic melodies — and on her latest single, “Rebuilding”, she explores the realms of trippy, experimental production, making liberal use of sampling, vocal chops, and textured synths that give this track a fast-paced, energetic foundation. Lay atop this a slew of soothing, smooth synths and a delightful vocal performance, and you have a track that’s irresistible from start to finish. The mix rounds things out handsomely, as you’re left hitting repeat over and over again — take a listen to the track here!

Sophia Bavishi - “In The Woods”

Phoenix-based singer/songwriter and producer Sophia Bavishi blends hypnotic beats, ethereal melodies, and experimental electronica that shows through brilliantly on her latest single, “In The Woods” — with a dark, mysterious energy that would remind you of a Grimes and Kehlani-esque sound, there’s a lot of drama in this mix — be it with the gritty synths, or the downtempo trap drop with its growling low end, the charm of its track lies in its switch-ups; and I’m glad to report that it translates excellently throughout. Couple with this a wide-open soundstage with an animate, beautiful vocal performance, and you have on your hands a winner! Check out the track here!
