LITM Rock Picks This Week: Marble Raft and more!

In this edition of LITM Rock Picks, we curate a mix of artists like Marble Raft and more!

Marble Raft - “Rites Of Passage”

Marble Raft, a Stockholm-based indie pop duo comprised of Olle Söderström and Gabrielle Baker, creates dreamy, escapist soundscapes with chiming guitars, eerie mellotron, and lush layers — and on their latest single, “Rites Of Passage”, they bring their sound and turn it up to eleven with their signature ether. The track is held beautifully together by the clinical, precise drumming, while all the vocal layers come together to create an angelic, dreamy sound. The pads are another standout on this track, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that’ll leave you craving more. Check out the track here!

SORE - “SMILE”

SORE, the artist moniker of composer Ella Dowling, prides herself on being “the saddest girl on the internet”, brings a sound that can be described as an experimental take on emo pop — and on her latest single, “SMILE”, she pairs a high-tempo drum beat with elegant sampling work to create an eerie, haunting atmosphere from the get go — and as the guitars enter the foray, the basses settle the listener into their seat, awaiting the vocals — which impress with their cadence, and vivid use of artistic imagery, filled to the gills with metaphors. The presentation I beautifully avant-garde, with just enough quirk to stand out like a beacon; check out the track here!

Ginko Bugs - “Close In October”

Ginko Bugs is a Stockholm-based pop-rock band known for their nostalgic, cinematic sound that blends classic rock influences with modern vibes. Their recent single "Close in October" combines gentle acoustic guitar work, to present a delicate, intricate sound that will have you charmed from the get go — with the carefree, elegant vocals, this track comes quickly together to deliver its poetic lyrics, speaking of themes of love and warmth; some could argue this is a great sweater weather song, keeping with its title; and the execution is, overall, delightful. Citizens of YEAH! - “Kimberella”

Citizens of YEAH! is a vibrant band from Newcastle, known for their energetic and quirky approach to music — and on their latest single, “Kimberella”, they bring a cheery, soulful tinge to their pop rock sound, dotted beautifully by the basses in the mix, as well as the glittery, crystal pads that punctuate the energy in the track. The vocal presentation is charming, with the vocal layers creating a lush layer of sound. The rhythm guitars impress with their creamy tone as the song comes together quite beautifully — all in all, a winner of a track! Check it out here:

The Max Headroom - “Cult Radio”

The Max Headroom is a five-piece Australian band blending psychedelic rock with a modern indie vibe — and on their latest single, “Cult Radio”, they combine an idyllic indie pop sound with influences of British rock; be it the wah-ed guitars or the slow, smooth sound in the intro, there’s charm and charisma that oozes from every bar of this song. The vocal presentation is peaceful, and evokes feelings of serenity, while the guitars in the background play excellent support. The track is structured beautifully, with gentle swells and ebbs of energy that take you for a ride unlike anything else; a winner, this one! Check out the track here:
