Mortal Prophets - Down On Me
John Beckmann returns with his outfit Mortal Prophets and with it, he brings his signature raw, primal and downright terrifying sound on his latest single “Down On Me”. This song has that same captivating soundscape that holds your attention with a death grip and refuses to let go as all his other music. Massively ambient, the production of this track reaches dizzying heights and Beckmann’s signature baritone singing has this immersive feel to it that makes you lose yourself in the vistas this song paints. Mortal Prophets are intriguing and maestros of a sound they have truly made their own. This is the third song of theirs I am reviewing and if you aren’t already a fan, then you should go check out their music right now!
The Survival Code - Haunted By Myself
“Haunted By Myself” by The Survival Code is a song filled to the brim with killer riffs, heavy palm-muted power chords and a spirited drum beat that delicately walks the line between alternative and hard rock. The lyrics are masterfully penned down and hauntingly introspective, detailing an internal conflict of the soul that anyone listening to the song can resonate with. Not to undercut the technicality of the instrumentation however, the guitars are masterfully produced with a delectable crunch and a powerful rumbling bass that are packed into a handful of motions and motifs this song will take you through. The Survival Code takes you on a journey with this song and you should check it out!
Fulvetta - Lampshade
Hazy, dreamy and potent. Those are the three words I’d use to describe “Lampshade” by Fulvetta. This band drawing from their influences such as Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine has found a sound that is both experimental and familiar, weaving a chaotic tapestry of sounds that come together to bring you pure auditory bliss. The guitars are massive and the drums are booming perfectly complementing the shoegaze-y vocal styles giving this song a full body and a soft landing on the eardrums. Fulvetta are rising talents within the shoegaze scene who you need to be paying attention to, and you can start by adding ”Lampshade” to your playlists!
Pheelynx - Can’t Get Away
Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Pheelynx has a sound that is unique in the space. Driven by an energetic drumbeat and a powerful bassline her latest song “Can’t Get Away” is a high-octane thrill ride that will leave you breathless. The juxtaposition of heavy bass and clean guitar tones on this tone gives this song a hectic yet warm soundscape. Pheelynx’s vocals and dark lyrics explore poignant themes about avoiding accountability and the songwriting is rich with themes that you could explore forever. Pheelynx is immensely talented and her music is instantly identifiable, so check this song out and add it to your playlist!
Vienna - I hate falling, but I’d fall anywhere with you
Vienna has crafted a melancholic masterpiece with their latest release “I hate falling, but I’d fall anywhere with you”. Opening on ambient recordings of a conversation sitting atop the killer instrumentation the song instantly draws you in. The riffs and drums build leave you anticipating the vocals to kick in eventually giving you a catharsis as the singing beginnings. Featuring a raw and heartfelt vocal performance this song resonates with you at the core of your emotions. I loved listening to every second of this song and so would you. So go give Vienna your love and support by adding this song to your playlists!
